Hi All,

This is something else I have been working on over last couple of months.

Still needs some weathering on the tracks in particular & the base isn't quite there yet, want try & add some figures but figure painting is not really my strong point.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice work there Wilfy, love your weathering on the tank and I agree with Jase, I love your groundwork too. The dirty water in the bomb crater is excellent and the ground has been really well done - it has a real 'blown to smithereens over and over again' look to it?

Those Takom WW1 tank kits look very good. I'm not into WW1 as such but I might have a look at building something like that eventually as there are some nice kits coming out now, what with it being the centenary years at the moment?

Well done Wilf,

Hi,

Just a quick update.

Here are the figures I'm hoping to use.

They're from the Tamiya MK IV Male kit.

I airbrushed on the base coat using AK's WWI British uniform set. It comes with the base, light & shadow. They airbrush & brush paint very well, so lets see how it goes.

The face is always the one part that scares me but I have a few flesh paint sets that I'll a give a try.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice figures Wilfy, they'll certainly bring your dio to life when you add them!

If it helps Wilfy and figure painting scares you that much, I'll pop a link into this thread later (when I have had chance to sort it), of a brilliant sequence on how to paint faces very realistically, by a famous and very skilled modeller called Mark Bannerman. It will really help you a lot and if you just follow his method, then you simply can't go wrong and your figures will be totally transformed?

The biggest mistake people make is to try and paint in the whites of the eyes, which no matter what you do, it always makes the figure look like he has the most horrendous 1000 yard stare? Mark does it in a brilliant yet very simple way that will stop that crazy stare from ever developing!! I'm sure you'll find it very useful.CoolThumpUp

Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated.

The link for figure painting would be a great help Kev, as I said earlier, I'm always scared of painting faces & this puts me off.

I think I just need to go for it!

Thanks again.

Hi all,

Thought I would give my own opinion on the groundwork of this dio.

I am happy with the result but would just like to advise on the product used.

It was Mig Mud, I bought a set of these about a year ago & until I started this base they had never been opened, when they were they were rock hard, 6 jars unusable. I ordered 2 new jars of European Wet Mud & one of those was half set & had to go back - just a worry about shelf life - don't buy until you are going to use it.

On another note, the coating on the base is only a few millimetres thick, size A4 & this took two jars, so about £9-£10 to coat it & not totally finished yet.

I have to say it does look the part, but won't use it again, could get the same effect using plaster, pigments & paint.

Thanks

Wilfy
