Hi all
Ive been very patient and saved up all my issues so far, that is until now!
Well ive made a start on this wonderful machine and model.
the detail is quite frankly stunning and i don't want to take anything away from this brilliant model, but ive decided to make a few changes for my own personal preference.
Firstly i will be adding the sponsorship decals (as im sure most will) and ive also decided to paint her.
So off came the printed logo's etc and a good sanding to start with, also added the hairline fibre decals.
So primer, paint & a new lacquer which i had never used before was all applied. nose came out beautifully and i was really pleased with it, the rear wing end plates needed a bit more work to get the finish sorted out.
Decals have been applied to the nose but i have yet to clear coat as i need to add the sponsorship decal which also sits on part of the main body panel.
Rear wing is ready for the decals then a clear coat to seal.
more to come

regards
Dan

ive added the carbon decal to the nose box, with a little smoke to tone it down a bit, also cut off the plastic fixing brackets and made some out of aluminium. i went for a matt finish then rubbed it over with 400 paper to get a few scratches & a rough look to it.
decals fitted to the rear wing.

Great start Dan. Very brave to go down the route of painting yourself but it looks to have paid off. Well done

Thank you Steve & thanks for looking in
A few problems getting the rear wing to a good standard, but a few re sands and paint laying sorted it out in the end.

Started on the radiator side pod, a spray over of matt black and a mesh rad protector fitted (the touch ups were still wet when photos taken)
not that the photos show it but ive also overlaid the radiator with a mesh (radiator style), inter-cooler rad join has been filled and painted
and a little mock up for photo illustration purposes
Happy New Year modellers, enjoy your builds BigGrin

That's a very nice bit of enhancement there Dan, they really look the part, well done!! CoolThumpUp

Did you make those 'Jubilee' clips yourself or are they an aftermarket item? They look super good - great work!!

The screen-wire mesh you've used in your cooling ducts to replace the supplied moulded screen looks far more accurate. Do you mind me asking where you sourced the scale-correct mesh screen you used?

Hi Chancery24
cant remember where exactly i got it from but its "Finemolds AE-18 metal mesh square 09"
im sure a web search should source a local supplier to yourself (prob Japan)
hope this helps

Dan...Thanks for the reply...I see the mesh available at Hobbylink Japan...with whom I're done lots of business over the years. I'll add some of this to my latest order.

good luck with the rest of your build!

Hi Malc
ive had great success with Zero paints 2 pack gloss, it goes on very well dries great and polishes to a fantastic finish (I will never use any other Gloss now), no reaction with Acrylic or Lacquer based paints. BUT this must be used with a mask as it contains isocyanates!

I'll second that with Zero paints. Use them all the time and never had a problem. Perfect match to what your building and airbrush ready.

Hi Dan

great job on the build, a few tips there for me.

i have a question if i may, the hairline fibre decals you have applied - i done the same to my rear wing end plates when i started but when the decal had dried i could not see the lines at all, it was just black so did you do anything to make them stand out or is it just the flash on the camera thats making them stand out.

thanks

Hi Casino
yes the decals (assuming they are the same) are very dark grey/black & "clear" the clear part of the decal clearly shows through the colour of the rear wing end plate. to emphasise the difference i used a mix of Tamiya Aluminium & gun metal (mainly aluminium) on the inside of the end plate and although ive not done it yet i will tone it down further with a "hint" of "alclad" transparent smoke before doing a clear coat of alclad light sheen.

Dan
