Some very nice work there Dan! Some great additions to what looks like an excellent kit. I'll follow this diary closely.BigGrin
Could you tell me please what you use to clear coat the decals?
many thanks
Malc.

Hi Malc
ive had great success with Zero paints 2 pack gloss, it goes on very well dries great and polishes to a fantastic finish (I will never use any other Gloss now), no reaction with Acrylic or Lacquer based paints. BUT this must be used with a mask as it contains isocyanates!

Regards
Dan

Hi Dan,
Many thanks for the information I'll see if zero paints are available here in SA.

Hi Casino
yes the decals (assuming they are the same) are very dark grey/black & "clear" the clear part of the decal clearly shows through the colour of the rear wing end plate. to emphasise the difference i used a mix of Tamiya Aluminium & gun metal (mainly aluminium) on the inside of the end plate and although ive not done it yet i will tone it down further with a "hint" of "alclad" transparent smoke before doing a clear coat of alclad light sheen.

regards
Dan

Hi Dan

ok the paint must be the difference then as yes they are the same decals, i was a little miffed to say the least when i applied one and let it dry only to find i could not see the difference.

thank you for the info

caught up with the right hand side pod with regard to the silicone pipes and jubilee clips, i also decided to cut of the inter cooler access panel cover "dimples" and changed them for some bolts. also finished off the rear wing but its in need of a clean up after polishing.
nearly forgot, managed to make the radiator clips as well

Thank you Spencer
its difficult, as i keep seeing little bits i want to do, but its such a great model already, so just a few little bits (and a few mistakes, new callipers needed lol) will be packing it all away for a good few weeks as house move will be in progress soon.

hi all, unfortunately this will be my last post on this build for a good few weeks as all the gear is to be packed away and shipped to a new address very soon. anyway ive been working on the mono in the last couple of weeks! to get the rough stipple effect on the front nose area i brushed on tamiya flat black and continued to work the brush until the paint dried, i then used alclad pale gold for the front base coat and alclad aluminium on the rear before applying the carbon decals.
after a few days i dusted over the decals with a coat of alclad gunmetal to tone it down.

sorry for all the blurry photo's (they looked good on the camera screen)
i gave the seat base/cockpit internal a coat of halfords matt black & although the picture came out bad i did actually apply carbon decals to the gear knob area!

I then applied the sponsor decals & left alone for a couple of days to fully dry out. a coat of Alclad Flat Clear to the outside of the monocoque came next.
the internal carbon around the gear knob will be given a coat of clear gloss.
As i have 2 sponsorship decals for the nose i don't have to wait until the main body arrives to fit into place (part of the decal sits on the main body)so added one to the nose and the other will be used for the part that sits on the body section BigGrin so now i can clear coat the nose and finish that off.

Hi All
nearly back to making some models!
still some unpacking to do but found that whilst i was doing some of my said unpacking i was kinda doing bits and bobs (was unpacking and organising model materials etc)that said i somehow drilled the inter-coolers and radiators, inserted some connectors and fitted some pipework!!!
crazy thing this modelling, it somehow distracts you from what your supposed to be doing LOL
i just need to work out how to get the radiator expansion pipes to look as though they have pink coolant within them!!

Regards

not much to show at the moment! been working on the carbon for the brake cooling ducts and turbo inlets, but these are not ready yet so you will have to wait till another update.
only managed to fit some pipework on the RH air inlet and also, not that the photos show them but added some rivets to the cockpit gear knob panel.
A couple of shots of progress so far and also alongside the MP4/23.
