Issue 123 - Contains the Mainsail, bambo rod, diecast right-hand side decorarions, Bowsprit decoration, crosstree and cap parts.
Decorations
Take decorations (PD21, PD50, PD51, PA54, PA56 and PD66) that came with this issue. Remove any burrs with a fine file, then coat them with metal primer and paint them gold.
Then uUse a fine paintbrush, and white, black, red and blue paint, to retouch decorations PD21, PD50, PD51, PA54 and PA56, as shown in the instructions.
Glue pieces PA54 and PA56 in the slots located on the front quarter gallery on the right-hand side of the model.
Again, on the right-hand side, fix two of the pieces PD21 and decoration PD50. The three pieces go on the bulwark in the central area of the ship.
Next, fix the third pieces PD21 and PD51 on the same side of the hull. Their location is on the bulwark, forward of the decorations fixed in the previous step.
Finally, glue piece PD66 on top of the bowsprit, 5mm from the first binding at the base of the mast.
Bowsprit support rope
Take the 2mm brown thread that came with Issue 119 and cut off a 100mm-long piece. The two ends of the thread must be fixed with glue inside the holes above the hatchway in the forward bulkhead. Glue one end of the thread into the hole on the left (looking at the bulkhead). Take the thread to the opposite side, passing next to PD66 and under the bowsprit. Then, fix it in the right-hand hole.
Crosstrees & Caps
Cut the caps and the components of the three crosstrees of the flagpoles (203, 204, 205 and 206, that came this issue) from the die. Smooth the edges of them all with sandpaper.
Join two pieces 203, two pieces 204 and a spacer 205, making the first crosstree. Take care to ensure that the pieces are at right angles to one another.
In the same way, make the other two crosstrees. Paint the three crosstrees a sapele colour. Paint the three caps 206 black.
Flagpoles
Prepare the three flagpoles to be mounted at the top of the fore, main and mizzenmast. Take the assembly drawing of the masts and yards that came with Issue 113.
Cut three pieces, one 56mm long, one 55mm and one 54mm, from the 2 x 300mm-diameter dowel that you received with this issue. They are identified by the codes 207, 208 and 209.
Using a fine-grained sanding-block, gradually taper one of the ends of each rod, reducing it to a diameter of 1mm.
Coat all three poles with sapele-coloured paint. Then take 15 eyebolts that came with Issue 63 and burnish them black.
Make three holes on each rod with a 0.5mm bit. After shortening the stems, glue the eyebolts into the holes. Check the position of the holes on the plan and in the photos.
Checking the plans of the masts and the photos, assemble the caps 206, the crosstrees and flagpoles. Then, make two holes on the sides of the caps and fix the remaining eyebolts in them.
Fix flagpole 207 with the crosstree and the cap on the top section of the foremast, turning it toward the bow of the ship. Assembly is quite similar to that of the other portions of the mast. Following the previous step, mount flagpoles 208 and 209 (with their crosstrees and caps) on top of the mainmast and mizzenmast.
Shrouds & Futtock Shrouds
Take 12 one-hole 4mm blocks that came with one of your previous issues, strop them with 0.15mm thread and tie them to the eyebolts attached to the caps and to the bottom of the flagpoles.
Now you can install the shrouds, the futtock shrouds and ratlines on the top sections of mast before the flagpoles. You will need 35 black-painted deadeyes, dark brown 0.5mm thread and light brown 0.15mm thread.
Begin to prepare the shrouds and futtock shrouds by joining the deadeyes to the 0.5mm dark brown thread with a binding of light brown 0.15mm thread. Follow the measurement shown in the first photo of Step 22.
Fit the shrouds and futtock shrouds on the top sections of mast, by following the same steps that you used when fitting shrouds on the lower section of the mast. Once the shrouds and futtock shrouds are fitted, make the ratlines with 0.15mm thread, leaving a distance of 5mm between them.
Topgallant sail Stay & Mizzenmast topgallant sail Stay
Take the four deadeyes 161 left over from your previous work session. With dark brown 0.5mm thread and 0.15mm light brown thread, make two 100mm-long collars and two stays – one 350mm long (A) and one 200mm long (B).
Between the masts fix the topgallant stay (A), and that of the mizzen-topgallant (B) to their respective collars. This job is similar to fitting the stays in your last work session.
Now you have to make the upper topgallant stay, which runs between the upper end of the second section of the foremast and the bowsprit of the ship.
Glue a burnished eyebolt on the railing of the bowsprit top, positioning it as shown in the photo. Then, tie a 1m-long piece of 0.25mm thread to the eyebolt on the bracket of the bowsprit.
Go on to make the upper topgallant stay, using a one-hole 6mm block (211) from Issue 88 and 0.5mm dark brown thread and light brown 0.15mm thread.
Pass the free end of the stay through the foremast mid-top, wrapping the base of the third section of mast. Fix the end of the stay with a binding of 0.15mm thread below the top.
Join a one-hole 4mm block (209) to a piece of 0.25mm thread. Pass the free end of the thread through the hole in the block 211 of the stay and tie it to the eyebolt on the bowsprit top.
Take the 0.25mm thread tied in Step 27 and pass it through the block 209 stropped in Step 30 and the block 209 fixed to the bowsprit just beyond.
Stretch the 0.25mm thread and fix it to the last belay pin in the rack on the right-hand side of the bow. Cut off the excess thread. A diagram of how to secure the thread to the rack is shown in Step 33, always fix the thread with a drop of glue.
Little Stays
To make two little stays and two collars, take four 4mm two-hole blocks (212) from Issue 88 and join them with bindings made with 0.15mm thread to four pieces of 0.5mm brown thread. The approx length can be judged from the Step 36 photo.
The first stay stretches between the crosstree of the foremast flagpole and the top of the topmast on the bowsprit.
Wrap a collar around the topmast of the bowsprit, just below the lower cap, and fix it with a binding of 0.15mm thread. Then, knot the upper end of the stay to the flagpole of the foremast, just above the crosstree.
Next, connect the lower end of the stay to the collar with the binding between blocks 212 illustrated in Step 38 of the instructions.
The second little stay you prepared in Step 34 stretches between the crosstree of the flagpole of the mainmast and the upper top of the foremast. Tie the collar below the cheeks of the foremast upper top, then fix the stay on the flagpole of the mainmast, just above the crosstree. Finally, join the blocks with the tie shown in Step 38.
Now you need to make a new stay between the top of the flagpole of the mizzenmast and the mainmast mid top. The lower end of the stay should be fixed below the cheeks of the mainmast mid top, and the upper end must be tied to the eyebolt on the top of the flagpole of the mizzenmast.
This completes this session. Carefully store flat, the unused Mainsail (identified by the code SA1) for a future assembly session.

Issue 124 - Contains the Topsail, diecast left-hand side decorations, dummy cannon, belay pins, 4mm one-hole blocks and eyebolts.
Belay pins
The belay pins that came with this issue must be set along the bulwarks of both sides of your model, in the A, B & C positions shown.
A - Place four belaying pins on the edge of a bulwark facing the mainmast. To do this, you need to drill the required holes.
B - Place three belay pins on the edge of the bulwark between the quarterdeck and upper quarterdeck.
C - Place two more on the edge of the aft end of the upper quarterdeck. Repeat on the opposite side of the model.
Mast rigging
With the 0.5mm brown thread and the 6mm two-hole blocks (213), make 12 backstays. Also, make 12 collars with the 0.5mm thread, the 0.25mm thread and the 6mm one-hole blocks (211).
Mainmast maintop backstay - Tie one of the 500mm brown threads below the cheeks of the second maintop. Follow the measurements shown in the photo and cut off any excess.
With the 0.25mm thread, make a binding around the knot made in the 0.5mm thread to secure it to the mast.
Join the blocks 213 and 211 to the 0.25mm thread of one of the collars. Fix the 0.5mm thread of the collar to the edge of the bulwark, making a binding with 0.25mm thread. Follow the measurements shown and cut off any excess thread.
Fix the end of the 0.25mm thread of the collar to the cleat on the deck. Avoid overtightening the backstay, so as not to bend the mast.
Now attach the topgallant backstay. Tie another 500mm of 0.5mm dark brown thread below the cheeks of the third maintop, following the measurements shown.
With 0.25mm thread, make a binding round the knot with which you fastened the 0.5mm dark brown thread to the mast.
Join blocks 213 and 211 with the 0.25mm thread of one of the collars. Fix the brown thread of the collar to the edge of the bulwark with a binding of 0.25mm thread. Wrap the ends of the 0.25mm thread of the collar round the cleat on the deck.
Repeat on the other side of the model. When tightening the backstay, check that the mast remains straight.
Foremast backstay - Fix one of the 500mm brown threads prepared in Step 4 below the cheeks of the second fore top. Follow the measurements shown. As before, make a binding with 0.25mm thread around the knot with which you fastened the brown thread to the mast.
Now join blocks 211 and 213 with the 0.25mm thread of one of the collars, then knot the thread of the collar to the edge of the bulwark of the forecastle. Fasten the 0.25mm thread to the belay pin.
Foremast topgallant backstay - is fitted in a similar fashion to the others. Then, tie 500mm of dark brown 0.5mm thread below the cheeks of the third fore top, following the measurements shown.
Make a binding with 0.25mm thread around the knot with which you fastened the brown thread to the mast.
Join blocks 211 and 213 with the 0.25mm thread of a collar, then tie the thread of the collar to the bulwark of the deck. Fix the 0.25mm thread to the eyebolt shown in the photo. Repeat on the other side of the model.
Mizzenmast topgallant backstay - Tie 500mm of dark brown 0.5mm thread below the cheeks of the mizzenmast upper top.
As before, make a binding with 0.25mm thread around the knot with which you fastened the dark brown thread to the mast. After joining blocks 211 and 213 with the 0.25mm thread of a collar, fix the thread of the collar to the edge of the bulwark of the upper quarterdeck. Then, tie the 0.25mm thread to the eyebolt.
Royal mizzenmast backstay - Tie 500mm of dark brown 0.5mm thread at the top of the third section of the mizzenmast. Make a binding with 0.25mm thread around the knot under the crosstree. Then, join blocks 211 and 213 with the 0.25mm thread of a collar and tie the thread of the collar to the edge of the bulwark of the upper quarterdeck.
Tie the 0.25mm thread of the collar to the eyebolt, then repeat on the other side of the model.
Mainsail
Take the mainsail SA1 that came with Issue 123 and the yard V7 that you prepared in one of your previous work sessions.
Thread the end of the yard in the loops at the top corners of the sail.
On one end of the yard, knot a piece of 0.25mm thread 1,200mm long and begin sewing the sail on the yard. The stitches around the yard must coincide with the vertical seams of the sail. The stitches must take a piece of fabric and not just the bolt rope of the sail. Tie the 0.25mm thread to the other end of the yard. Make a parrel with two pieces of 0.25mm thread, eight sapele-coloured deadeyes and 14 parrel trucks.
Now hang the yard V7 and sail SA1 on the mast. Place the yard in front of the mast, holding it in a horizontal position.
The yard V7 is joined to the mainmast with the parrel. Put the parrel round the mast and tie the two 0.25mm threads around the yard. The deadeyes and parrel trucks of the parrel should be arranged aft of the mast. The curved edge of parrel trucks should be facing outward.
With two 0.5mm dark brown threads, a 0.25mm thread and a 6mm two-hole block (213) make the halyards of the mainyard. Follow the measurements shown.
Place the yard V7 just below the cheeks of the first maintop. Using the 0.25mm thread of the halyards, join block 213 to the bitt on the deck behind the mast.
Tie the ends of the thread to an eyebolt set in the deck. Lead the brown thread of the halyards upwards, pass them through the top and above the cap. Push the two threads through the holes of the cap, then lead them down inside the top. If necessary, enlarge the holes slightly with a round needle file. Tie the two brown threads round the middle of the yard V7, then cut off the excess.
Now you can make the lifts of the mainyard with 0.25mm thread. Tie the thread to the forward eyebolt under the top, pass it through the top hole of the fiddle block (159) on the tip of the yard V7 and insert it in the 4mm one-hole block (209) attached to the eyebolt. Fasten the thread to the middle of the belay pin in front of the mast. Similarly, fit the lift on the other end of the yard.
With 0.25mm, thread make the mainsheets. Start by tying the thread to the loop at one of the two bottom corners of the sail SA1. Pass the thread through the one-hole block (209) attached to the yard V7. Pass the thread through a 4mm one-hole block (209). You need to tie it to the forwardmost shroud with 0.25mm thread. Tie off the thread on the belay pin that you fitted in Step 2. Repeat Steps 40 to 43 on the other side of the sail SA1.
To fit the arms of the yard V7, begin by tying 0.25mm thread to an eyebolt that you must fix on the bulwark, in the position shown in the inset photo. Pass the thread through the simple block (209) onehole on the end of the yard V7 and lead it towards the bulwark. Tie off the thread on the first belay pin fixed on the upper quarterdeck.
In a similar fashion, fit the second brace on the other side of the yard V7.
Prepare the sheets of the mainsail SA1 with 0.25mm thread which, in this case, is not pulled taut. Tie the thread to the eyebolt used in Step 44 (see inset photo). With 0.25mm thread, strop a 4mm simple block (209) on the loop of one of the lower corners of sail SA1 and pass the thread through it.
Fix the thread of the sheet on the forwardmost belay pin of the upper quarterdeck (see Step 3). In the same way, fit the sheet of the other side of the sail.
Dummy half cannon
Smooth, paint and assemble the four half-cannons that came with this issue, as described in Steps 1 and 2 of the Issue 119. Carefully store them until needed.
Decorations
Take decorations PD21, PD50, PD51, PA54 and PA56, remove any burrs. Then prime and paint them to match the same seven decorations paint in Issue 123.
The photo shows the three areas (A, B & C) of the left-hand side of the model where these seven decorations are to be fixed. Glue each decoration in the location shown.
This completes this session. Carefully store the remaining parts.

You will need to drill the required holes in the positions shown. Then fit three belay pins on the edge of a bulwark facing the mainmast and fit three belay pins on the edge of the bulwark of the quarterdeck.
Similarly repeat on the opposite side of the model.
Burnish 6 eyebolts black, then drill the left-hand side of the quarterdeck and fit three eyebolts in the positions shown in the Step 4 photo.
Similarly fit another three eyebolts on the right-hand side of the quarterdeck in a symmetrical position.
Take the topsail SA2 that came with Issue 124, and the yard V8 prepared in a previous issue. - Attach the sail to the yard as described in Steps 25 to 27 of the previous last assembly session. Similarly, attach the topgallant sail SA3 (received with this issue) to the yard V9. Following the same procedure, attach the mainmast royal sail SA4 (also included with this issue) to the yard V10.
Attach the yard V8 (and its sail) in front of the mainmast, placing it under the second top. The yard must be attached to the mast by a binding made with 0.25mm light brown thread as shown.
Prepare four halyards using 0.5mm dark brown thread and a 4mm two-hole block (212). - Make four collars with 0.5mm thread and a 4mm one-hole block (209). Follow the measurements shown in the photos.
Tie the brown thread with a collar to one of the two forwardmost eyebolts of those fitted earlier. Then, connect the block 209 of the collar to block 212 of a halyard with 0.25mm thread. Tie off the thread on the nearest cleat. Lead the brown thread of the halyard upwards, pass it through the second maintop and fix it with a drop of glue on the cap. Re-pass the thread inside the top, and then tie it to the yard V8.
The second halyard of yard V8 is to go on the other side of the model, fit it in the same way as the first. Bring the halyard above the cap, passing through the top, then knot it to the yard V8, as you did with the other halyard.
Prepare the lifts of the topsail yard V8, using 0.25mm thread. - Tie the thread to the eyebolt attached laterally under the second maintop and pass it through the two-hole block (212) on the tip of the yard V8.
Pass the thread through the 209 block attached to the eyebolt in the previous step, then lead it down to the deck, tying it off on the third belay pin of the rack in front of the mainmast.
Similarly fit the second lift on the other side of the yard.
Using 0.25mm thread, prepare the sheets of the topsail SA2. - Tie the thread to the loop at a bottom corner of the sail SA2, pass it through the free hole in the fiddle block (159) on the tip of the yard V7 and pass it through a block (209) that you must fix to the forwardmost shroud with 0.25mm thread. Tie off the thread on one of the belay pins that you fixed on the edge of the bulwark facing the mainmast. (to locate the exact pin, look closely at the step 21 photo).
Similarly repeat on the other side of the sail SA2.
Now fit the braces of the yard V8, to be prepared with 0.25mm thread. - Tie the thread to the most forward of the mizzenmast shrouds and let it pass through block 209 hanging at the end of the yard V8. Pass the brace through a block 209 to be fixed with the 0.25mm thread to the same shroud (most forward of the mizzenmast shrouds), then pass it through another block 209 that you must tie to the forward mainmast shroud. Tie off the brace on the first belay pin that you installed on the edge of the bulwark of the quarterdeck as indicated in the step 25 photo.
Similarly, fit the second brace on the other side of the yard V8.
Using 0.25mm thread, make the sheets of the topsail SA2. - Tie the thread to of one of the bottom corners of the sail SA2, then pass it through the one-hole block (209) attached to the yard V8. Pass the thread through a block 209 that you must fix to the forwardmost shroud. Then, tie the sheet to the belay pin indicated in the second photo of Step 28.
Similarly repeat on the other side of the sail SA2.
With a binding, attach the topgallant yard V9 (and the sail SA3) in front of the mast, placing it under the upper top. Then, fit the halyards and collars prepared in Step 11.
Tie the thread of a collar to the second eyebolt fixed in Step 4. Connect the block (209) of the collar to the block (212) of a halyard with 0.25mm thread. Tie off the thread on the cleat shown in the Step 30 photo.
Lead the thread of the halyard upward, pass it through the upper maintop and fix it with a drop of glue on the cap. Re-pass it through the top, and then tie it to the yard V9.
Similarly fit the second halyard of yard V9 on the other side of the model.
With the 0.25mm thread, you can make the lifts of the topgallant yard V9. - Tie the thread to the eyebolt attached laterally below the upper maintop, pass it through the block (212) on the tip of the yard V9
and pass it through the block (209) attached to the eyebolt.
Lead the thread down behind the sails SA3, SA1 and SA2 and fix it to the second belay pin of the rack in front of the mainmast.
Similarly fit the other lift.
The sheets of the topgallant sail SA3 follow a similar path to the sheets of the topsail SA2. - Knot a piece of 0.25mm thread to the loop of one of the bottom corners of the sail SA3 and pass it through the free hole of the block (212) at the end of the yard V8. Pass the thread through a block 209 that you must attach to the forward topsail shroud, below the block in Step 28. Tie the thread on the belay pin shown in the Step 39 photo.
Similarly repeat on the opposite side of the sail SA3.
Now it is the turn of the sheets of the topgallant sail SA3 - Which must be made with the 0.25mm thread. The path of the rope is similar to that of the sheets of the topsail SA2 fitted previously.
Begin by tying one end of the thread to the loop at one of the bottom corners of the topgallant sail SA3. Pass the thread first through the one-hole block (209) hanging on the yard V9, and then through a block 209 that you must attach to the forwardmost shroud just under the yard itself. Bring the thread of the sheet down and fix it to the belay pin shown in the Step 43 photo with the tie that was described in Step 33 of Issue 123.
Similarly fit the second sheet on the other side of the sail SA3.
Now make the braces of the yard V9, using 0.25mm thread. - First, fix a burnished eyebolt under the forward part of the mizzen upper top and tie to it the end of the first brace. Then, tie a block 209 to the
eyebolt. Pass the thread of the brace through the block (209) hanging at one end of the yard V9. Lead the brace back toward the mizzenmast upper top and pass it through the block 209 that you fixed in Step 46. Lead the brace down towards the bulwark of the quarterdeck and tie it off on the second belay pin indicated in the Step 49 photo.
Similarly, fit the second brace of the yard V9.
This completes this session, carefully store the remaining parts.
