Hi Everyone,
I have completed 110 issues of Sovereign of the Seas but never started to build... Now decided to move on and get back to modelling so ordered Arab Sultan Dhow as a warm up which is on it's way BigGrin . When reading through downloaded build instructions found information that before I start I should make sure to have all the tools, varnishes, glues etc and everything is available from Model Space store, they even provided product numbers. The problem is that whatever I try I cannot find nothing apart from 2 sets of paints and display stands, couldn't even find the white wood glue while there's info about mini drills, saws, bending presses etc.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong and how can I find all this tools and accessories that are mentioned in the manuals and advertised here on Model Space, please?

Thanks and best wishes to Everyone!

Thanks Steve. It's much appreciated.

Just to clarify, I understand the info provided with the model (copy below) is out of date and those tools and materials are not sold by DeAgostini anymore. Is that correct?

And if so when buying things from Cornwall Model Store would the item reference numbers match at all?
I mean it is quite easy to choose the right product when buying white glue (I suppose...?) but varnish for example can be found in many different colours or types.
I know that those modellers with some expirence may laugh now, thinking what is this guy talking about but as I finished building my last wooden model about 25 years ago I am nothing but complete novice. That's why it would be very handy if I could buy the items listed with the model, all together and from where I got the model from, using the reference numbers without hassle. BTW I expected that everything needed will be provided with the model. This may put me well off before I even started.

Kind regards, Daniel

A lot of this stuff can be found cheaply if you shop around. Stuff like varnishes and sandpaper are sold in Wilkinsons for good prices and as for the varnish, look after the tin and you will be amazed how long a 250ml tin will last. Mini clamps can be found on eBay for cheap as well. And I don't believe in expensive thread scissors. A decent pair of small scissors will serve the purpose equally well.

Hi Daniel,

The Model Space website is going through some changes at the moment and this is the reason that the items are not showing in the store. When the new site is published they will be available to buy again but in the meantime I have prepared some links to CMB for the items you need.

White glue - this can be any good wood glue and can be found here, the Aliphatic is best for a quick grab time -

http://www.cornwallmodel...catalog/wood_glues.html

Quick-drying glue - this is just CA or Super glue -

http://www.cornwallmodel...caldercraft_ag9102.html

Hand drill - These are also called pin vices and need separate drill bits -
http://www.cornwallmodel...uk/acatalog/pv1061.html
http://www.cornwallmodel...k/acatalog/rdr4005.html

I'm thinking that by "cutter" you mean a craft Knife? -
http://www.cornwallmodel.../mantua_8263_knife.html

or a plank cutter -
http://www.cornwallmodel...catalog/amati_7386.html

Sandpaper - a range of grades here -

http://www.cornwallmodel...alog/sanding_tools.html

Hammer - This is for the small pins to hold the planks in place -

http://www.cornwallmodel...mantua_8297_hammer.html

Plank Bender - this is for making the planks curve around the bow / stern much easier -

http://www.cornwallmodel...catalog/amati_7381.html

- unable to shortcut to the exact item but the mini clamps are found on this page -

http://www.cornwallmodel...uk/acatalog/clamps.html

Saws - here is a good selection of razor saws, some with mitre blocks -

http://www.cornwallmodel...catalog/razor-saws.html

Scissors can be any of the sewing type for cutting thread.

The varnish or stain colour is up to you and there is a choice here -

Varnishes - http://www.cornwallmodel...dmiralty_varnishes.html

Stains - http://www.cornwallmodel...g/admiralty_stains.html

Hope this helps

Steve

Thanks a milion! Your help is greatly appreciated.
Looks like there's far better support here than I expected.

RE: Cutter no 1 - I just copied the text from the documentation supplied with the model so I don't know what they did mean by that. Copy of the document below.
