Hi guys and girls, i dont know about you but i found painting the barrels nigh on impossible even with masking tape, so i tried another method. Get yaselves some black cotton and wrap it round each ring twice and seal it with watered down PVA making sure all the cut offs are on the bottom that glues to the skids, worked a treat for me and i thought it would be good for you, realy easy and no mess. Wallace This is a good idea matey appreciated! I've been having trouble with the blessed masking tape as its so fine and I've managed to stick it every where but the barrel! Pam's shipyard is closed for now no more room!

Come on guys, lets get along Anyway, silly little tip! anyone go to the garden centre lately? well there you can buy copper plant markers, the ones you can wrote on with a pencil that leaves in imprint, that's how soft the copper is, well get a couple of these, and if you have a keen eye, and good hands you can easily cut 1mm strips of copper for the barrels, or if like me, your hand's dont do what your head is telling them, the wire that comes with them, the part you use to tie them to the plant is 1mm thick, so use that instead? hope it helps, and they were 99p for 10 Ship Builds on the go

Ok so it seem there are many diffrent ways to do the rings on them, think i will be going with lonestar becuase if these are to be gun powder barrels then i think im right in saying they had copper bands round them to stop any sparks, but what about the barrels them self what the best finnish for a painted version? Any ideas lads ???? Brian

im new to this building lark and am looking for the simplest solutions, my fingers are to big for some of the smaller jobs and i just thought my solution would be helpful as it is easy and quick and after sealing with varnish it should last, i tried the masking tape and found that to be as difficult as painting the rings by hand.
