Hi guys, just after finding out if there is a preferred primer (ordered lifecolour aotake for paint) that can be sourced in the uk?As I plan on building it half skeleton, and only portions of it in the aotake, so a lot will be "clear coated"

If not, what should i be looking for on primer, other than being suitable for metal and clearBigGrin Is there anything i need to avoid if im airbrushing onto the primer, as my process will be white vinegar wash, then rinsed with water prior to primer application.

BigGrin Hi WR

Some info here on primers

http://forum.model-space...aspx?g=posts&t=3446

also on flee-bay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...amp;hash=item3cd30d23db

I think there is a supplier in the UK now but have misplaced the link, I will update tomorrow when i have found it.

If your painting the model and not having the bare metal finish then Halfords Primers or any good brand will do fine. I will add that I have clear primed before adding Aotake to the parts but have also omitted it when I ran out, whilst awaiting the next consignment from the posty and have had no problems with the Aotake paint adhesion after a good degreasing.

BigGrin Hi WR

The supplier for a clear undercoat is in the link below, its not Tamiya but Mr Gunze which some say is a better product.

The dark art of primers!!LOL LOL I use a variety of primers, depending on what I am building, and also what scale. My prefered weapon of choice is the Vallejo range. It comes in a wide range of colours to help with your top coat colour, and is pre mixed for airbrushes. It is self leveling and its coverage is superb, it goes for miles!!LOL BigGrin It works well with all paint manufacturers, Tamiya etc, and will cover everything from metal and resin to plastic and rubber. I also use automotive primers. Simoniz or Hycote are great in a can for large pieces. If you see my Hachette Tiger or my current T34/85, they are done with rattle cans. Lots of light even coats. The white on the interior of the T34/85 is white Simoniz primer, and was excellent to work with. Everyone has there own preference, my choices may not be others. It all depends on what works best for you. I tend to stick with what works best for me.BigGrin BigGrin

another daft question - if i'm not painting the skeleton half, to prevent dulling, is the primer sufficient, or should i get a proper lacquer?

Hi WR

I would stick to the Mr Gunze clear undercoat as that stuff needs specialist items like an air breathing system and a sealed spray booth to apply it as its highly dangerous to your health to use it without these pieces of equipment.

Mine is done exclusively with Tamiya clear primer. It is noxious, but manageable. I also used Lifecolor Aotake, and had no problems.
