During the build or after completion of your model you may wish to polish the body panels to remove fingerprint smudges etc. It's perfectly safe to do this but you must ensure to use the correct polishing product.
Please don't treat your model paintwork as if it's the real thing!
The paint used on the model is not automotive grade paint and is much softer and prone to being worn away by the more abrasive polishing products designed for the real thing.
It's recommended that you use only Tamiya Modeling wax for your model paintwork to keep it looking super shiny without the risk of ruining the finish.

Great tip Steve, I have actually recently purchased some of this for that very purpose. I have tried some normal car wax, as this is not abrasive in anyway shape or form and this works just as well. A decent car wax is very expensive in comparisson but if people have any in their arsenal it can also be used. Like you say the paint is softer than automotive paint so the applicator used plays a big part, when applying a quality car wax it goes on very well using a clean finger. I also plan to use a ceramic coating I have in my car detailing kit that will seal in the finish for a number of years

Id see how you get on with the Tamiya wax being a specialist product for this type of paint. I doubt it's necessary to ceramic coat the parts as they are not going to be exposed to the same abuse as a real car with regard to outdoor conditions etc, well I hope not anyway  Steve

Hi David, I certainly wouldn't like to try using normal car wax on any model, think the chance of it removing or thinning paint down, regardless how remote would worry me too much to even attempt it.... Think I'd stick to products designed for models paintwork but that's just me of course..... Regards Alan
