Pack 21 contains Stages 80-83

Stage 80 - Contains upper wing plates 6,14,15 & 16, a template and pin-nails.

Start by marking the rivet lines from the template onto upper wingplate 4 (both from Stage 77), then mark the lines of rivets.

Test-fit the plate onto the left half of the wing and make any adjustment needed. Then glue the plate into position and fit the pin-nails as shown in the instructions.

Now place plate 6 onto the template from this stage and transfer the rivet lines onto the plate, then mark the rivets.
Test-fit, then glue the plate in position, then fit a pin-nail at the four indicated points on the plate.

This completes this stage, carefully store the remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Stage 81 - Contains lower wing plate 27 & 21 and a template.

Retrieve upper wing plate 4 from Stage 59 and the template from Stage 77. Mark the rivet lines from the template onto the plate.
Test-fit the plate on the right half of the wing, make any necessary adjustments but do not glue this plate in place.

Now place plate 6 on the template from Stage 68 and transfer the rivet lines from the template onto the plate. Test-fit then glue plate in position using plate 4 as a guide, then fit a pin-nails at the four indicated points on the plate.

Carefully store the remaining parts and also wingplate plate 4 (which will be a removable wing plate).

This completes this stage.

Stage 82 - Contains a reinforcement parts fret, wooden wing mounts and lower wing plate 31.

Carefully label each of the parts upon the wooden fret, then cut them from the fret and smooth the cut edges.

Place the engine cover on a flat surface. Test-fit and glue parts A and B in position. Make sure they are glued flush with the outer edge of the frames.

Take parts E and F. Apply glue to part F and place a part E onto it, then glue the second E part on top of the first aligning the holes of all three parts.

Retrieve the fuselage assembly, test fit the assembly just made into the nose frame of the fuselage, then glue the assembly in place, up against the front frame. Make sure the flat edge of part F is aligned with the flat edge of the frame.
When the glue is fully dry, test-fit the propeller shaft into the central hole of the assembly.

Take parts C and D. Turn the front fuselage over and glue the two C parts to the two frames indicated, so that they are, aligned with the outer edge of the frame.

Take parts G and H, glue them to the fuselage frames at the locations shown.

This completes this stage, carefully store the remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Stage 83 - Contains lower wing plates 22, 24 29, 32 & 33, and a template.

Place plate 13 on the template (both from Stage 78) and mark its rivet lines.

Test-fit the plate onto the left wing, make any necessary adjustments then glue it in place. When the glue has set, turn the wing over and reinforce the glue join by applying more glue to the contact areas.
Then turn the wing over and fit two pin-nails at the indicated points on the plate.

This completes Pack 21. Carefully store the remaining parts from this stage in a labelled bag.

Pack 22 contains stages 84 - 87

Stage 84 - Contains the upper wing fairings 4 & 5.

Place bottom plate 13 on the template (both from Stage 62), then mark the lines on the template onto plate 13. Then run the rivet marker along these lines.

Retrieve upper wing plate 4 prepared in Stage 81 and place it into position on the wing. Place plate 13 up against the rear edge of plate 4 to test-fit. Adjust the fit of plate 13 if necessary then glue it in place. Remove plate 4 and carefully store for later use. Turn the wing over and reinforce the joins of plate 13 with more glue, then turn the wing over and fit a pin nail into each top corner of plate 13.

Smooth the surfaces of the two upper wing fairing 5 parts with fine emery paper until they become shiny, then wipe away the residue with an alcohol cleaner.

Test-fit one of the fairings onto the left wing, at the point shown in step 10. Carefully file the underside of the fairing so that its conforms to the profile shape of the wing. Then, apply glue to the edge of the fairing and fit it in place in the position shown in Step 10.

Carefully store the remaining fairings for later use.

This completes this stage.

Stage 85 - Contains lower wing plates 17, 18, 19, 23 & upper wing plate 10 and a template.

Note that the missing arrowed plate from the template (lower wing plate 20), is provided in Stage 101 and is fitted in Stage 102. (This also applies to the template/content of Stage 91).

Retreive the two aileron's made previously and identify the left aileron.

Place upper wing plate 14 onto the template (both from Stage 68). Transfer the lines from the template onto the plate using a knife and a ruler, (I placed the template onto the skin and followed the lines).

Place plate 14 on the top of the aileron, the fronts and sides of both should be aligned then apply glue to the edges of the ribs to fix the plate in place. When the glue has set, carefully sand flush both ends.

Now test-fit plate 31 (Stage 82) on the underside of the aileron then glue it in place. Adjust the shape of the plate to be flush with the edges of the previous plate fitted. Sand the front and side of the aileron to touch up any uneven areas.

Deepen and slightly enlarge the two slots on the aileron inner edge so that each slot will accomodate a hinge (Stage 40). Remove two hinges from the sprue, sand the edges smooth and test-fit a hinge into each of the two slots prepared, the hinge should be inserted un to it central line hinge line. When happy with the fit glue the hinges in place.

This completes this Stage. Carefully store the left aileron for later use along with any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Stage 86 - Contains fuselage plates 1, 2, 4, engine cowl plates 1 & 7 and a template.

Place upper wing plate 14 onto the template (both from Stage 80). Transfer the lines from the template onto the plate.

Glue plate 14 on the top of the aileron, the fronts and sides of both should be aligned. Sand the ends of the plate to match those of the aileron. Test-fit plate 31 (Stage 82) on the underside of the aileron. Adjust the shape of the plate to be flush with the edges of the aileron, then glue into place.

Use a sanding block or file to smooth the surface of the aileron spar on the right wing. Test-fit the aileron on the right wing ensuring it is central within its space. Mark the position of the hinges on the rear spar of the wing, then cut two slots to accomodate the hinges.

Insert the aileron hinges into the slots of the rear spar. DOS NOT not glue them into the spar until later on in the build.

Repeat to prepare the left wing with the left aileron.

Both ailerons have now been assembled, these will be fitted permanently at Stage 31. Carefully store the ailerons and remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Stage 87 - Contains wooden motor mount supports, diecast upper wing fairings 1 & 2 and the instrument panel.

Take fairings 1 and 2, smooth the surfaces with fine emery paper until they become shiny, then wipe away the residue.

Test-fit fairing #1 on top of the left half of the wing, over the hole in the skin. Adjust the underside the fairing to fit the shape of the wing and then glue the fairing in place.

Test-fit and glue wing fairing 2 onto the wing, at the position shown in Step 3.

Take upper wing plate 4 provided with Stage 77 and place it onto the right wing half. Secure it with elastic bands or masking tape. Glue upper wing fairing 5 (Stage 84) to the top of plate 4, as shown in Step 4, but make sure it is not glued onto the skin panel already glued in place, (otherwise you wil not be able to remove plate 4).

Test-fit and glue wing fairings 1 and 2 onto plate 4, in the positions shown in Step 5. Then remove plate 4 from the wing and carefully store for future placement.

Motor mount assembly

Remove the three pieces from the motor mount wooden fret. Test-fit the mount side pieces into the engine bay before gluing the motor mount assembly together.
Note that the mount side pieces should slightly splay outwards as can be seen in my photo, they should not be fitted at 90 degrees to the motor mount top plate as shown in the instructions.

Do Not glue the motor mount into the engine bay until Stage 31.

This completes Pack 22. Carefully store the remaining parts from this stage in a labelled bag.
