BigGrin Hi All

This will be the build diary of this ship that received 11 battle honours in her 30 year service with the Navy and of all the ships Nelson sailed on she was always his favorite and to quote Nelson as the Agamemnon hove into view captained by nelsons friend Sir Edward Berry at the battle of Trafalgar ' Here comes that dam fool Berry! Now we shall have a battle'.

This is a Kit I have had my eye on for a while now and hopefully will do it the justice it deserves.

I did not receive the kit from new but one that had been started and then stored for a few years, the Hull had been made up with all the formers and the lower deck added and had been stored in its dry dock and after a good check over had suffered no warping or twisting and is as good as the day she was put together, a couple of the ribs have been broken but are all present and will be refitted when the decks are added as the mode of build is to plank the decks and fit them to the hull before the first lime wood planking is done. The rest of the kit in a very sturdy cardboard box is all present including the instruction book ,9 large plan sheets copper plates for the hull, brass guns lots of cast metal, etch and the usual fittings, rigging cable,Laser cut sheet parts and lastly loads of various hard wood strip the only casualty over time had been the elastic bands holding the different strips together but this was soon sorted.

I have Kieth Juliers book where he describes the building of this ship and should go well with the instructions. This will not be a fast build but one that will reflect the quality of this kit. Right now I am cutting the planks to size for the decks to start this part. I have included a few pic's including the figure head and the three decks. Enjoy because I certainly am Drool Drool Drool . More soon

At 1,300mm long, a beam of 490mm and 945mm high, she's certainly a huge model to display Blink

Good luck with the build and look forward to seeing how you get on with one of Caldercraft's "Rolls Royce" kits Cool

BigGrin Hi Everyone

Thanks for looking in and all your comments, she will be a big ship when completed and already dwarf's other builds I have. There will be learning curves aswell because the planking is done in a way that is close to the full size ship I suspect[Lots of tapering at stern and bow]and another challenge.

Regards

Andy

I will be following with great attention as this is one in my storage pile ready for retirement ( which based on my firms latest ploy maybe not far away. They have decided to re-grade and skill the jobs and I now gave 2 days to produce a cv for a job I presently do Cursing

I love the joking/caldercraft kits and my ultimate aim is to get hold of that Victory they make (most people on here know I collect rather than do a lot of building LOL LOL but I just admire these guys so much)

Really looking forward to your build on this as I know from your other builds it will be a brilliant one to follow.

Best wishes and happy modelling

Andy

Many thanks for the comments - really worried about the job situation at the moment but not a lot I can do to change the situation.

So looking forward to your build of this one I have put a "watch" on your diary to make sure I do not miss anything BigGrin - just re-read that line and it sounds a bit creepy Huh Big Brother has arrived BigGrin

Hoping you have everything in your box of parts but if there is anything wrong or damaged or missing you know you can drop me a note and I will be only too happy to open mine and answer any queries using my kit.

Best wishes and happy building

BigGrin Hi Tony

Hopefully the job situation will work out to your benefit.

As for putting a watch on the build its more than welcome, I can live with a big brother such as yourself keeping an eye on the buildBlink BigGrin LOL.

I have had a good look at the parts and used the contents list to check off and everything as far as I am aware is there, even the ply-wood that the false keel and former's were attached too are still in the box but thanks for the offer of help if needed very much appreciated and one i shall take up if needed.

BigGrin Hi All

Made a start with the planking of the lower deck, one side is now done and trimmed back, I have then put a coat of Sepia wash watered down 50% on it to high light the plank edges this wash after the trenails are added and the decks are Danish oiled should bring them out nicely.
If you look at the close up pics of the finished half and the one with a few planks at the rear the wash also gives a nice golden colour to the planks which again should look even better after the Danish Oil is used on the decks. More soon.

Regards
