Hello All Seeing as my HMS Victory is now complete, I decided to tackle a smaller project, the HMV Endeavour Cross Section. Working a little back to front as I am doing the cross section first and will then do the ship at a later stage. So the issues start at 101 (Pic 1). I have completed 101 - 107 and have attached the pics. I used scraps nailed to the ribs to maintain the correct distances between ribs ( Pic 2). These will be later removed as the hull progresses and is more secure. I did not trust the instructions to use elastic bands, there was still a little too much movement for my liking. (Pic 3 and 4.) I am trying a new technique for myself, in that the deck should not be in prestine condition. So I decided to depict them as being used and scrubbed down etc. This is the effect I currently have. The other pic shows the build so far. Enjoy your builds. Hi Hans, Good luck with your new project. I'll be following closely. I like the look of your weathered deck. I am thinking of doing something similar on my Pearl. Would you mind sharing your technique. Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Would you mind sharing your technique. Kind regards, Garth Hello Garth No problem at all. The idea was that with the scrubbing and washing of the decks the looks should be patchy and scrubbed. For me it was a trial and error task First thing I did was to sand with fine sandpaper (1000 grit)to show the grain. I had be careful as the plank is but 0.6mm thick. If you look at the pic on the right first two planks, I used a mahogony varnish, one thin coat, let dry for a few minutes. The next six planks with a thin second coat, let dry for a few minutes. On the last four planks I used a fairly stiff brush and dipped in lacquer thinners and brushed until I was happy with the result. The thinners takes off the gloss shine and the more times you brush, the more the more some of the varnish comes off except that which has gone into the grain. It gives a flat no shine textured scrubbed look that I wanted to achieve. Hope this helps Hans attached the following image(s): Rgds, Hans "It's okay to make mistakes. mistakes are our teachers - they help us to to learn, even if it is painfully" Current Build: Endeavour Cross section,D51 Completed: HMS Victory Under the bench: Endeavour x 2,Sovereign of the Seas, Akagi and The Black Pearl!HMS Victory Cross Section

Just a little update on the work done in last few weeks. As will be noticed I did not stay with the original colours and changed a few things. Progress so far in the build: Hold inner linings, lower and second lower deck sections, mast step, fitting of lower deck sections and stanchions. I went with a meranti stain here as well as the tables. Fitting of the waist deck, colour and age the barrels. Work in progress Hammocks, poop deck and bulwarks, make and age the 4 pounders. I a little dilemma here. No patena available at present in SA so made do with some washes. Still working on it till I am happy with it.
