Location: Waterlooville, Portsmouth. The home of HMS Victory.
On the day Nelson left Portsmouth on his fateful voyage he made his one last walk on dry land from Penny Street to the Sallyport (so called because officers & men would use this gate to 'Sally Forth' to sea. The two pics below show Nelson's route and the Sallyport for his departure. The Victory was laying off St. Helens at the eastern end of the Isle of Wight waiting his arrival.





We all know what happened next:



Searching around Portsmouth reveals many monuments to Nelson.

Thanks for posting this mate, fascinating selection of pictures. Makes me realise how much of Portsmouth I missed when I went! Time for another visit I reckon!
