Thanks for the comments. Another short update. A start was made on the bow elevator by assembling the floor and walls, Pic.1. After the structure had dried I noticed there was a slight bow along the length of the side pieces, Pic 2. After a little thought I rectified this by clamping a file along the length of the side and whilst clamped flat glued the outer strips to the side, Pics 3 & 4. This was then left clamped until the glue dried. Once the clamp was removed the side remained flat. The rest of the strips were then glued in place, Pic 5 and once dry the ends trimmed flush with the sides, Pic 6. The structure was then given a coat of matt varnish to seal the wood.

Whilst the varnish was drying I assembled the starboard bow hanger, Pics 7-9.

That’s it for now

Thanks for looking in guys.

Walter - I will be installing all the machinery but haven't yet decided on how I am going to display the finished model. After reading Andy's (and other) builds I will be replacing the deck pieces with a single piece deck made from planked acrylic or mdf. I have thought of mounting the whole deck raised on clear acrylic rods to show the internals but I will make a final decision later in the build.

It’s been a while since my last update but the build has continued between other projects. The central hanger was built, Pic 1 and Pic 2 shows it with the metal casting sat in place. Pic 3 shows the bow elevator, port and starboard bow hangers and the central hanger.

The main hanger is made up of several modules. Pics 4 & 5 show the first one made up (it is pictured upside down as it was more stable this way due to the location tabs at the bottom).

An additional piece was then added to the starboard bow hanger, Pic 6. The central elevator was built in the same way as the bow one, I’m afraid I forgot to take a pic at this stage.

The port side of the main hanger was built next, Pics 7 & 8 followed by the aft elevator, Pics 9 & 10. The stern hanger frame was built, Pic 11, then clad with planking, filled and sanded, Pic 12. Two reinforcing pieces were also added to the stern hanger wall, Pic 13.
Finally, for this update, seven ribs were added to one of the internal hanger walls. In order to keep the ribs level I clamped a ruler along the upper level of the ribs, Pic 14, then glued the ribs in place butting the tops up to the rule, Pics 15 & 16.
