Pack 23 contains Stages 89 - 90

Stage 89 - Contains lower wing plates 25, 26 & 30, a spare plate, wooden strips and a template.

Mask the underside of the wing with paper, securing it with masking tape, then cut out the paper around the landing gear housing's. Then mask the upper side of the right-hand wing half around the opening in the wing.

If you don’t wish to paint the openings grey, they can be painted aluminium.

Apply primer to the openings and then apply a topcoat in your chosen finish, (for the grey of the wing underside, Tamiya recommend AS-32 medium sea grey (aerosol) or XF-83 medium sea grey (pot paint).

When the paint is dry, remove the masking paper.

This completes the interior painting of the wing.

Carefully store the remaining parts from this stage in a labelled bag.

Stage 89 - Contains fuselage plates 5,6 7, 12, 21 and a template.

Retrieve strut mount blocks from Stage 61. Test-fit then in the holes in the left landing gear housing. Insert the projections at the end of the suspension strut from Stage 70 into the holes in housing parts.

Insert a strut with a wheel attached (Stage 72) into the strut. Once you have found the correct position, apply glue to the end of the wheel strut to secure it in place. Remove the suspension and wheel, which are now one piece.
Repeat this process on the other side of the wing to create the second strut assembly. Then remove the wheels and paint the struts with the same grey as the landing gear housing's.

Drill a shallow, 2mm-wide hole in the four projections of the wheel fairings, from Stage 69,(be careful not to drill through the fairing).
Smooth the surface of the fairings then and prime & paint them the same grey as the struts.

Fix the wheels to the struts and place the assemblies onto the fairings, aligning the holes at the side of the struts with those in the fairing. Secure by tightening four screws from Stage 69 into the four holes. Place housing parts back onto the projections at the end of the strut, and then into the holes in the landing gear housing. Apply glue to parts 1 and 2 to secure them in the housing.

Follow the same process to complete the landing gear on the other side of the wing. Note - There should be a gap of 130mm between them when the landing gear is down.

This completes this stage, carefully store any unused parts.

Stage 90 - Contains lower wing plates 22, 24,29, 32, 33 and a template.

Take upper wing plate 16 and the template from Stage 80. Place the plate on the template to identify it, then transfer the dashed line from the template onto the plate then mark the rivet line.

Place the plate at the tip of the right-hand wing half, mark the excess that overlaps then remove the excess from the plate.

Apply glue to the contact points between the plate and the ribs of the wing and place the plate in position. When the glue has set, fit a pin into the two locations shown.

This completes this Stage, carefully store any remaining parts.

Pack 24 contains Stages 91 - 94

Stage 91 - Contains lower wing plate 17,18,19 & 23, upper wing plate 10 and a template.

Note that the missing arrowed plate shown on the template (lower wing plate 20), is provided in Stage 101 and is fitted in Stage 102. The additional plate (not shown on the template) is upper wing plate 10.

Retrieve the navigation lighting kit.

Insert the connector of the battery box and switch onto the circuit board as shown, then insert the two red & green LED cables (550mm long) at the points shown. Then insert four AA batteries into the battery box and turn the switch on to check both LED's light.
Once tested, remove the LEDs cables from the board, then check that the twist in the wires is tight and that there are no gaps between the wires.

Position the wing with the underside facing up. Insert the green LED cable into the tube in the right side of the wing. Another way to pass the LED through the tube is to take a length of 0.5mm brass wire, supplied with Stage 36, and wrap one end around the LED wire as shown in the instructions.
Slide the LED along the tube until it exits the other end of the tube. Carefully pull the brass wire at the same time as you feed in the LED cable, and pull the brass wire until the LED comes out past the leading edge of the wing. Lead the LED into the hole in the leading edge of the wing, (you may need to slightly enlarge the hole).

Pull the wire out at the other end of the tube until there is no slack in the tube and secure the wire to the tube with contact adhesive. It's a good idea to test the Led's again before gluing the wire in place.

Follow the same process to install the 550mm red LED cable into the tube of the left wing half.

Finally, pull both plug ends of the LED cables out of the top of the wing opening between the plates.

This completes this Stage, carefully store any remaining parts and the battery box, switch and circuit board.

Stage 92 - Contains a spare plate section, pin-nails, cockpit door and cockpit door hinges.

Take upper wing plate 16 and the template from Stage 68. Place the plate on the template and mark the rivet lines as before.

Place the plate at the left end of the wing. Adjust the curve of the plate, then mark and remove the excess that overlaps. Apply glue to the contact points between the plate and the ribs of the wing and fit the plate in place. When the glue has set, fit a pin-nail at each indicated point.

Shape upper wing plate 15, from Stage 68, over a cylindrical object. Test-fit the plate in the area of the wing tip next to the plate just fitted.
Mark and remove the overlapping edges of the plate, then apply glue to the contact areas on the wing and fit the plate into position. When the glue has set, fit a pin-nail at the indicated points.

Repeat to fit upper wing plate 15 (provided with Stage 80) onto the opposite wing half, wing tip.

This completes this stage, carefully store any unused parts in a labelled bag.

Stage 93 - Contains lower wing plate 25, 26 & 30, pin-nails and a template.

Place lower wing plate 33 onto the template from Stage 83. Place the plate on the underside of the wing in the position shown, then mark the edges where they overlap the ends of the trailing edge.
Adjust the plate to fit the wing. Apply glue to the contact points on the wing then fit the plate into position.

When the glue has set, fit a pin-nail at each of the points shown.

Transfer the lines from the template that came with Stage 88 onto lower wing plate 26. Mark along the lines on plate 26 with the rivet marker.
Test-fit plate 26 on the wing, aligned with the front edge of plate 33, and flush with the side of it, adjust if necessary then apply glue to the areas where the plate and the wing will be in contact and fit the plate in place.
When the glue has set, fit a pin-nail at each of the points shown.

This completes this stage, carefully store any unused parts in a labelled bag.

Stage 94 - Contains a radiator top & sides, 13mm screws and 25mm screws.

Place lower wing plate 33 onto the template, both from Stage 90. Place the plate on the underside of the wing and mark the edges where they overlap.
Adjust the plate to fit the wing, test-fitting it as you go. Apply glue to the contact points on the wing and glue the plate into position. When dry, fit pin-nails at the points shown.

Transfer the lines from the template that came with Stage 93 onto lower wing plate 26. Mark along the lines on plate 26 with the rivet marker.
Test-fit plate 26 on the wing, aligned with the front edge of plate 33, and flush with the side of it. Adjust if necessary, then apply glue to the contact areas, and when the glue has set, fit a pin-nail at the points shown.

This completes Pack 24, carefully store any unused parts in a labelled bag and keep the wing protected and safe until the next session.
