Hi all.. many of you wanted to see my build diary here instead of on my twitter feed, so i'll cross post here. A bit about myself, I've collected diecast model aircraft for over 15 years and have always been wanting to build something "special" and high end. I have some Herpa 1:200 premium models in my collection, but still felt there could be something bigger/better. I never liked the balsa kits that are out there. I have had my eyes on DeAgostini stuff for a few years now and I also subscribe to the Millenium Falcon, but I am waiting until my son (who is 9 right now) is a bit older before we start that one as father/son project. I plan on trying to find American Airlines Flagship decals for this model, not a big fan of PAA, but I did find some other 1:32 decals here: http://www.callie-graphics.com/airplanes.php
I have a background and deep understanding diecast model tooling and manufacturing. I've scratch built a 1:400 scale Airline Terminal (Coffee Table International - or CTI: http://www.wings900.com/...showgallery.php?cat=507) and I'm currently also building a digital N scale (1:160) german train layout which you can follow here: http://germanrail.fr.yuk...nd-Progress-Photos-1160
Needless to say, i'm very busy and this build will take over the year subscription, I take my time with models and I'm sometimes a bit too detail oriented. :) This first post encompasses what I've accomplished this past week and I will update this thread as things move along. Enjoy! -wnt2fly File Attachment(s): 1.jpg (304kb) downloaded 67 time(s). Wnt2Fly attached the following image(s):

One note here, I test fit the cockpit canopy in that photo above. It certainly doesn't fit well, i think the plastic curled a bit after it came out of the injection machine. I had to apply quite a bit of force to get it to curve around the back of the cockpit frame. I'm either going to have to heat it up gently or sand down the frame a bit...
I'll opt for sanding...no need to set fire to things ;)

Hi there, congratulations on starting the first member build diary of this iconic aircraft... Great start, and I'm looking forward to see more. :) I'm definitely getting this one when it becomes available in UK. Can't wait to be honest... Lots of progress tonight! I started to build up the cockpit seats, puttied some of the holes, painted the stringers, test fit the seats, and then built the instrument panel. Notes: Seat frames be test fit in the cockpit floor while the glue is drying, that is the only way to get the angle right for the slot and hole. Paper for the sidewall is kind of "cheap" compared to the rest of the model. A thin veneer would have been more professional. Of course i thought of this after the fact. I used a clear piece of plastic between the frame and the instrument panel dials to simulate glass. The instructions go way overboard (IMHO) with clear coats to get a similar finish. I think this "glass" looks pretty sweet. Will try for some more tomorrow, I need to prime and paint the rest of the seat parts and start making the control stack. Enjoy! -t Wnt2Fly attached the following image(s):
