This maybe tiny compared to Jases' mighty King Tiger but I managed to find one of these on eBay.

Part 1

This is what you get in the R/C box alongside the kit. There are motors and gears for the drive and turret rotation along with some extra parts to convert the static model to R/C.

This is the model kit itself. I looks like it comes with stronger tracks that you would get with the static model.

I purchased some after market options for my build. The first is a zimmerit sheet. This give the surfaces a texture representing the paste that was put on some armour to prevent magnetic mines from sticking to the hull.

The second upgrade I went for was the photo etched grills. I did no realise at first but you also get a sight for the turret gun as well.

I started the kit by glueing the photo etched parts into place.

Next I started adding the zimmerit. I had to cut out areas on the sheet with a modelling knife where any parts would stick out from. First up was the rear hull.

Next I added zimmerit to the front lower hull.

I added the zimmerit sheets to the turret sides. On each side a large square is cut out for the unit markings to sit in.

Over the weekend I decided to focus on the lower hull of this kit. That way I could start playing about with the electronics and get the thing moving.

The first thing to do was to start masking areas that should not be painted. These are areas where the wheels will be attached and any gaps which would let paint enter the internal compartment.

I also finished of the rear of the tank so it was ready for painting.

After painting the lower hull the wheels and sprockets needed painting before being attached to the tank. The drive sprockets contain metal parts to connect them to the drive. These were masked up.

The parts were primed and painted lifecolor dunkelgelb.

Next I hand painted some red brown camouflage onto the wheels and sprockets and gave them a dark wash.

It's time to start playing with the electronics. Here I tested the 3 motors before fitting anything into the tank. There is a motor for each set of tracks and one to turn the turret. These were easy to tell apart as they had different colour wires.

Next up is the drive gears. The first step was to build the left gearbox. These were easy to put together and were greased.

The right gearbox was constructed in the same way and attached to the left hand one. 8 tooth gears were then added to the two motors and they were fed through a gap in the housing to mesh with each gearbox.

There is a meta clip that is supposed to hold the motors in place but this kept popping off. In the end I left it off and the tank still run fine.

The electronics were then inserted into the hull. Its quite cramped but everything fit in nicely. The batteries sit above the motors and the housing for the turret gears was added.

Here the turret gears are in place and ready to rotate the turret when added.

Lastly the wheels and idler are added. At this point there are still caps to go onto the outer wheels in order to cover the screws holding them in place. The tracks are also added and these went on surprisingly easy.

Test fitting the rest of the tank.

Thanks Jase, its been a while but I have started work on this one again.

Here's a small update.

I finished applying the zimmerit to the model.

The upper hull turret and barrel is air brushed dunkel gelb.

After the main coat was applied I hand painted on a red brown camouflage pattern.

That looks like some funBigGrin

Again not seen these for a long time but what i notice are still available from the following supplier are rc upgrade kits for many of the tamiya 1:35 kits.

Always fancied upgrading the flak gepard but never gotten around to it (a case of big eyes, practically empty pockets, and a lack of time BigGrin )

Thought i would post the link in case anyone is interested Confused

This is turning into more of a model I want to preserve so I do not think it will be driving around too much.

I think at this scale r/c is a bit of a novelty as it lacks the suspension of larger models etc but they are still good fun!

I have recently purchased a 1/16 metal tiger tank. Not done any work on it yet but you can see it in action here. I have been looking at tanks on tankzone for a while but only just decided to give them a go as there is not much around the net about them.

Anyway here is a little update on the tiger 2 from my blog.

The next thing to do on my tiger 2 was to add the decals and tank commander. I applied the decals to a layer of varnish and then varnished them again to seal them to the surface.

<img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1675" src="https://kenjaraskits.files.wordpress.com/2016/02/imag1974.jpg" alt="IMAG1974" width="2688"[/img]

Next the tank commander was hand painted. I have not yet attached his headset, which should just clip around his neck. He is a little shiny here as this is before a coat of matt varnish and his outfit is semi gloss. I used a tooth pick to apply the silver to the hat emblems, buttons and iron cross. I find this much easier than a brush.

Here is is glued into the commander hatch.

Next I painted and added the machine gun to the commander cupola. You can just about see the metal gun sight from the metal detail pack I purchased.

Here you can see all but one of the models decals. I found the barrel stripes on the decal sheet and knew what they were for, but did not know where on the barrel to fit them. Luckily there are some photos around the net showing this. You can also see the unit insignia and numbers in this image.

Here you can see the only decal that posed a problem, this being the unit marking on the back of the turret. This is because it needed to be applied over the zimmerit paste. It was a good opportunity to give decal fix a go which helped a little bit but did not completely attach the decal.

I may get a new bottle of the stuff as apparently the old bottle I have has already been replaced by a much better formula.

Because the decal did not fix properly it messed up a little when I varnished it. The varnish did however fix the decal to the surface. I simply hand painted the bits of the decal that were damaged and it ended up looking good as new.

Thanks guys. Painting the crew is fast becoming one of my favourite parts of making a model! BigGrin

The Tiger 2 is almost complete. The spare tracks have been added to the turret and any accessories have been attached to the tank hull. From the above <!--more-->you can see the three tools that sit on top of the hull.

Here you can see the shovel and steel cables attached to the left side of the tank.

On the other side there are more cables. The thinner cables were actually snapped on the sprue but luckily I managed to glue them back together.

That's all of the parts added to the model. Next up some tidying up and weathering are required.

Very nice work on the King Tiger Kenjara and the commander figure looks great - well done!! Cool ThumpUp

I have Tamiya's static 1:35 kit of the same KT with the Henschel turret? I also have the full Eduard 'BigEd' PE set for it and Fruil metal tracks and drive sprockets plus a metal barrel. The actual build was started about 3 or 4 years ago and has sat in its' box about 85% finished ever since?

Your build is inspiring me to push it that last little bit to the finishing line!! BigGrin Cool ThumpUp
