Pack 3 contains Stages 12-17

Stage 12 – Left front suspension

Parts supplied:

Left front lower arm
Front lower arm pin
Height adjustment block
3mm self-tapping screw
Ball-headed screw

The parts supplied with this pack are more components for the left front suspension of your Huracán RC. These consist of the lower arm, the lower arm pin and the height adjustment block, plus a self-tapping screw to attach the arm to the block and a ball-headed screw onto which the left front shock absorber will be mounted.

Fit the height adjustment block into its seating in the lower part of the left side frame, aligning the holes in the two pieces then Slide the lower arm pin through the front hole of the frame and into, but not all the way through, that of the block.
Fit the lower arm into place on the lower edge of the frame, then push the pin all the way in so that it goes through the two holes in the arm. Insert and tighten the 3mm self-tapping screw into the front hole of the block to attach the block to the lower arm, then insert and tighten the ballheaded screw into the hole at the end of the arm.

Stage 13 – Front differential (Part 2)

Parts supplied:

Front differential pinions
Cross shafts
Shims

The pieces supplied with this issue include parts for the front differential, which you started putting together in Stage 10. The four pinions, together with the washers, will be fitted on the two cross shafts and will engage with the planetary gears.

Take two pinions and fit them onto one of the cross shafts, then fit the other two pinions onto the second shaft.
Put the washers onto the ends of the shafts, placing one behind each of the four pinions. Put enough grease inside the differential casing to cover the planetary gear at the bottom.

Now fit the shafts together to form a cross shape, by engaging the notches in the centre of each of the two shafts. Then lightly lubricate the pinions with a little grease.
Insert both of the shaft and pinion sets into the casing, fitting the ends of the shafts into the recesses in the casing walls.

Put some more grease on the pinions, without emptying the pack, as you will need some later, when you add the second planetary gear to the assembly.

Finally, place the O-ring in its seating round the rim of the casing to finish this stage. You will complete the differential in the next two stages.

Stage 14 – Front differential (Part 3)

Parts supplied:

Front differential case endplate
Cup joint
Drive pin
Planetary gear
3mm self-tapping screws
O-ring for cup joint
Shim
Ball bearing
Bearing eccentric

With the parts supplied with this stage, you will complete the internal mechanism of your Huracán’s front differential. At the end of the stage, make sure that the gears of the mechanism turn without too much resistance. If this isn’t the case, it’s probably because you’ve overtightened the endplate screws: loosen them just a little and the movement of the gears will be easier and smoother.

Fit the ball bearing onto the outer face of the differential case endplate (the face with the raised area at the centre – the differential pulley will be fitted there in the next stage). Then insert the cup joint into the hole in the middle of the endplate.

Push the O-ring onto the shaft of the cup joint, and press it down so that it fits into the recess on the inside of the endplate then Slip the shim washer onto the shaft of the cup joint and press it down onto the O-ring. Then insert the drive pin into the hole in the cup joint shaft and centre it.

Put the planetary gear onto the shaft and fit it over the drive pin. Then press the gear down so that it engages fully with the pin. To fit these two pieces together properly, you will need to use a certain amount of pressure.

Squeeze the grease left over from the previous assembly stage into the differential case.

Fit the endplate onto the case, and secure it with the four selftapping screws. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver, but don’t tighten them too much: the gears must still be able to turn freely.

Complete this stage by fitting the bearing eccentric over the ball bearing on the endplate.

Stage 15 – Front differential pulley and drivebelt

Parts supplied:

Front drivebelt
Front differential pulley (26T)
3mm self-tapping screws

Fitting the pulley supplied with this stage will complete the assembly of your Huracán’s front differential. The belt that is provided is the one that will transmit the drive from the front intermediate driveshaft to the differential.

Remove the bearing eccentric and the ball bearing from the differential assembly. This will expose the shaped seating on the endplate, onto which the pulley will be mounted.

The inside of the pulley and its seating on the differential have been shaped to make a joint capable of resisting the considerable forces to which the two parts will be subjected when in use.

Fit the pulley – with its recessed side facing the differential – over the cup joint and down onto its seating.

Put the four self-tapping screws into the holes in the pulley and tighten each of them by a few turns. Tighten the screws fully in a diagonal sequence: tighten any one of them, then the one diagonally opposite it, then tighten the other two screws.

Refit the ball bearing and the eccentric, and push them up against the pulley.

Store the differential and the belt in a labelled plastic bag until they are needed at a later stage.

Stage 16 – Second front shock absorber

Parts supplied:

Piston
Shaft
E-rings
Shock absorber top
Upper end cap
Diaphragm
Ball end
Adjusting nut
Shock absorber body
Spring
Ball-headed screw
Spacer
Lower end cap
Washer

The pieces you have received with this stage are all parts of the second front hydraulic shock absorber. To complete the assembly of this shock absorber, which is identical to the first one, you can use the replenishing oil supplied with Stage 2 (Pack 1).

Take the shock shaft and identify the end with the two small grooves in it. Using some needle-nose pliers, fit an E-ring onto the groove that is closer to the centre of the shaft.
Fit the piston onto the grooved end of the shaft. Push it down firmly, so that it butts up against the E-ring already fitted.
Take the second E-ring and, again using the pliers, fit it into the other groove on the shaft to
fix the piston in position.

Take the shock absorber body and fit the red washer into the smaller diameter end, then fit the black spacer.

Carefully screw the lower end cap of the shock absorber onto the body. Screw it on as far as it will go, but don’t apply too much force because that could damage it.

Hold the shaft by the piston, and lubricate the threaded end with a few drops of shock absorber oil. Now insert the threaded end of the shaft into the wide end of the shock absorber body. Push it through the washer until the threaded part emerges from it.

Using a strip of card or cloth to protect the shaft, grip it with pliers and screw the ball end onto the threaded part of it, using your fingertips to tighten it.

With a modelling clamp, hold the body of the shock absorber vertical. Fill the inside with the oil supplied, up to within about 1mm of the top, allow to stand for a few minutes to let any air bubbles escape.

Now push the ring of the shock absorber top through the upper end cap and insert the rubber diaphragm with the convex side facing out. Now screw the upper end cap onto the upper end of the shock absorber body. Tighten it just enough for the diaphragm to make the necessary seal so that there is no loss of oil.

Screw the adjusting nut onto the body of the shock absorber, fit the spring over the shock absorber shaft and up against the adjusting nut. When the assembly is complete, the nut can be screwed in and out to vary the amount that the spring is compressed.

Fit the spring holder between the end of the spring and the ball end. The holder will keep the spring in place.
Finally, insert the ball-headed screw into the hole in the shock absorber top. This screw is what will secure the shock to the front shock mount in the next assembly stage.

You can check the operation of the shock by holding its ends between your forefinger and thumb, then compress and release it.

This stage is now complete, save the remaining oil for later.

Stage 17 – Front Intermediate Driveshaft (Part 2)

Parts supplied:

Main drivebelt
Intermediate pulley (24T)
Spacer
Pulley shoulder
Driving pin
E-ring

The parts supplied with this stage are more components for your model’s transmission. The main drivebelt and its associated pulleys link the engine-driven main driveshaft to the front intermediate shaft. This, in turn, is linked to the front differential by the front drivebelt (Stage 15).
Together, these belts and pulleys and the differential deliver the engine power to the front wheels.

Slide the spacer onto the front intermediate driveshaft.
Insert the driving pin into the hole near the end of the driveshaft. Put the intermediate pulley onto the driveshaft, with the side that has a cross-shaped recess facing the driving pin. Then slide the pulley along to locate the pin within the recess.

Now slide the pulley shoulder onto the shaft so that it fits onto the hexagonal hub of the pulley and push the two components together, checking that the smooth face of the shoulder is facing outwards.
Using the pliers, clip the E-ring into the groove at the end of the shaft so that it will keep the shoulder and pulley in place.

Store the driveshaft and the belt in a labelled plastic bag until needed.

Stage 20 – Main driveshaft

Parts supplied:

Main driveshaft
E-rings
Drive pin
Pulley shoulder
Small pulley (18T)

The parts supplied with this stage are more components of the transmission of your Huracán. The main driveshaft will run from the engine through the clutch and deliver the drive to the wheels via a system of belts and pulleys, including the 18-tooth pulley received with this stage.

Take the drive pin and insert it into the hole at the end of the main driveshaft. One of the faces of the 18T pulley has a cross-shaped recess to accommodate the drive pin. Insert the end of the shaft with the drive pin into the pulley, fitting the pin into the recess.
Place the pulley shoulder onto the end of the shaft and up against the pulley then fit an E ring into the groove next to the shoulder.

Fit the remaining E-ring into groove at the other end of the shaft, or store it safely until it’s needed.

Stage complete, save any unused parts.

Stage 22 – Centrifugal clutch

Parts supplied:

Clutch shoes
Grub screws
Clutch springs
Inserts
Rollers
2.5 x 12mm adjuster screws
Clutch bush
Clutch shaft
Washer
Drive pin

This stage’s parts are the first components of your Huracán RC’s centrifugal clutch. The parts you assemble in this stage can be adjusted to set the speed at which the transmission shifts from first to second gear, or vice versa, but you won’t need to make these adjustments until you’ve completed the model. The clutch shaft and the washer will be used at a later stage.

Take a grub screw and tighten it into the hole in the centre of one of the clutch shoes. Repeat with the second clutch shoe and grub screw.

Slide one of the inserts over a 2.5 x 12mm screw, then place a spring over the insert. Repeat to make a second set. Place a screw, complete with insert and spring, into the hole near the end one of the clutch shoes. Then place a roller into the centre of the shoe. Repeat this step for the second shoe.

Now place the shoes on either side of the clutch bush.
Push the two clutch shoes together, around the clutch bush, inserting the end of each screw into the corresponding hole in the other shoe.
Tighten each screw with the Allen key until it is flush with the surface of the shoe.
Check that the two clutch shoes can separate slightly.

Stage 23 – Rear suspension mounts

Parts supplied:

Right rear suspension mount
Brake piston
Brake insert
Left rear suspension mount
Self-tapping screws
Bearings

These parts include the two rear suspension mounts, important components of your model’s chassis. They will support not only the rear suspension, but also the differential and the main driveshaft. The brake piston, a steel rod, is a key part of the model’s braking system and it will be mounted within the right rear suspension mount. You won’t be using the self-tapping screws in this stage, so store them away in a labelled bag for later use.

Press one of the two ball bearings into the smaller of the two large holes in the left rear suspension mount. You can identify this mount by looking for the ‘L’ stamped into it.
Press the second ball bearing into the right rear suspension mount.

Insert the brake piston into the hole in the right rear suspension mount. Make sure the piston inserts with the cutaway section first. You should now be able to see the flat section of the piston in the small hole in the suspension mount.
Place the brake insert into the indicated hole in the right rear suspension mount. The insert should sit fully in the hole, and be flush with the surface of the mount.

Stage complete, store the parts in labelled bags until needed.
