Pack 5
Steps 1 – 12: Kitchen Left Side

Using a craft knife, remove the individual elements one by one from the pre-cut wooden framework as you need them. Finish each piece by smoothing it with fine sandpaper to remove the brown laser ash residue from the parts, taking care not to change the shape of the parts.

Start by assembling the left side of the part of the fuselage that contains the kitchen. Fit and glue pieces 5K and 5L to piece 5AL, always checking that the pieces are at right angles to each other.

Fit and glue piece 5BL into the seating provided in pieces 5K and 5L.

In the same way, continue the assembly with pieces 5CL and 5DL.

Next fit and glue in position pieces 5EL, 5FL, 5GL, 5HL and 5IL. Make sure that they are parallel with each other and at right angles to piece 5K.

Then fit and glue piece 5M to the assembly as shown.

Fit and glue piece 5J to the upper part of the assembly.

Then fit and glue part 5P to make the kitchen floor.

Fit and glue pieces 5Q and 5T.

Continue the assembly of the kitchen with piece 5R, then add piece 5S, engaging it and fitting it to piece 5T, fitted in the previous step.

Now add piece 5U.

Fit and glue the two pieces 5V.

Finally for this section add pieces 5X and 5W, fitting and gluing them to the side panels 5V.

Steps 13 – 23: Kitchen Right Side

Now move on to assembling the right side of the model.

Using the remaining parts in the wooden frets, fit and glue pieces 5L and 5K into the slots in piece 5AR. Always be careful to check that the joints are at right angles.

Fit and glue pieces 5BR, 5CR and 5DR in the slots in pieces 5L and 5K.

Continue by fitting pieces 5ER, 5FR, 5GR, 5HR and 5IR. Make sure that these parts are set at right angles to part 5K.

Position the framework as shown, then fit and glue piece 5M in position.

On the upper part of the assembly, fit and glue piece 5J.

Inside the assembly, fit and glue piece 5O.

Then fit and glue part 5N.

Carefully smooth the area indicated where part 5N and 5CR interlock.

Fill and sand the internal contact surfaces where the two sides of the body will join each other to achieve a smooth, uniform finish as shown in step 19.

Position and glue the stringers around the outside of the right part of the body, adjusting the notches in which they fit with a file if necessary. The stringers must be flush with the ribs.
NOTE: Stringers must not be placed over the door area as indicated.

Now fit stringers to the interior of the right half as indicated. These stringers will be used to support the interior walls.

Repeat the process, fitting the stringers on the outside of the left side.

Also fit stringers on the inside of the left side as indicated, because the stringers will be used to support the internal walls.

Cut four sections, each 3mm long, from the bamboo rod supplied with Pack 2. Fit and glue them in the positions shown. They will be used to fix the rear part of the fuselage. Note: The two halves are not glued together.

Apply modelling filler to the two assemblies and paint them green. Let the paint dry, then use a brush to paint the interior parts grey, as shown in the photograph.

Steps 24 – 57 Kitchen internal detail

Stick the ‘Module 5 interior covering templates’ adhesive sheet onto the plastic sheet supplied with this pack and cut out the pieces shown (G3 and G4). Having done so, remove the adhesive sheet.

Stick the plastic pieces that you prepared in the previous step in the positions shown, then paint them grey, as shown below.

Without gluing it, place the left side of the kitchen against the left side of the passenger cabin assembled earlier. Use a pencil to mark the position of the lower aluminium-painted stringer (as shown in step 26).

Extend the pencil mark made in the previous step on both halves of the module, as shown by the red dotted lines in step 27.

With a brush, paint the parts above the pencil line beige and the parts below it Mediterranean blue. Leave to dry.

Having masked off the edges as shown, paint the side parts of the kitchen aluminium as shown in the next two pictures.

Take the ‘Kitchen covering templates’ adhesive sheet and stick it onto the half-sheet of aluminium supplied with this pack. Then cut out the pieces shown. Note: I left parts K14, 15 and 16 until needed due to their small size.

Use a craft knife to score (without cutting) the inside lines of pieces K5 and K6.

When required remove the adhesive sheet and lightly sand the sides of each piece to be glued when lining the kitchen. If necessary, trim them before gluing them.

First fit and glue pieces K10 and K11.

Also fit and glue pieces K7, K12.

Followed by piece K13.

Repeat the previous operations with pieces K3 and K4.

Then add the front panels K5, K6 and K16.

Complete the lining of the kitchen by attaching the handles K14 and K15 to piece K5.

To make the air bottles, take the bamboo rod supplied with this pack and check that it passes through the holes in the photo-engraved sheet G1. If it does not, sand it with fine abrasive paper along the whole of its length until it does.

Round the end of the rod with abrasive paper, then cut off one piece 10mm long as shown in step 38.

Make a mark with a sharp point in the centre of the non-rounded end of the piece of dowel (see step 39).

Cut the end of a nail off to leave it 4mm long, slide a bead onto it and finish off the air bottle as shown.

Apply wood filler and paint the air bottle aluminium. Repeat the operations to make six air bottles in all.

Take the photo-etched sheet G1. Having separated the piece and removed any imperfections, bend it with a pair of pliers as shown, using piece 5TEMP as a template so that it is the correct shape.

Fit the bottles as shown in the photo-etched rack made in step 42. Fix them with a drop of adhesive on the underside. Touch up the aluminium paint if necessary, and paint the details black to look like the caps.

Glue the bottle rack in the position shown and then add the four pieces SD, which are the handles of the cabinets.

Paint one stringer aluminium. Without gluing it, hold it up to the left side of the passenger cabin, as you did in step 26. Cut the stringer to length and glue it where indicated to continue the line of stringers on the neighbouring piece.

In the same way, cut and glue another piece of aluminium-painted stringer in the position shown. Also glue a further piece of aluminium-painted stringer vertically in the position indicated.

Moving to the right side, take the door frame C11, and the lock C13, and paint them beige and black respectively. Fit the lock in position on the right side of the assembly without gluing it (see step 28), and glue the door frame in position.

Complete the inside of the fuselage as shown, with two aluminium-painted stringers.

Repeat the procedure with flocking powder used in Pack 2
(Steps 35 to 38) to decorate the floor on both sides of the kitchen. Leave it to dry, then remove any excess powder; keep what is left over, it can be used later.

Following step 51, take the doors K1 and K2, remove the adhesive sheet and sand both sides lightly. Apply primer and then paint one side of both doors beige. Leave to dry, then mask as shown and paint aluminium.

Glue the doors that you completed in the previous step into the positions shown in the two halves of the kitchen.

Take the two door handles SJ. Touch up any imperfections, apply primer and paint aluminium. Then glue one handle to each door, in the positions indicted by the red arrows.

Paint a leftover piece of stringer black and cut off three pieces each 3mm long. With a very fine brush dipped in aluminium paint, draw a line on the pieces of stringer and glue them in the positions shown.

Take the piece 5STRAP. Smooth it gently with abrasive paper, apply primer and paint it Mediterranean blue. Paint the fire extinguisher C62 as you did in Pack 2, then glue both pieces in the positions indicated in the photograph.

Steps 58 – 73: Exterior Detail

Smooth the contact areas between the two halves of the structure with abrasive paper (shown in the yellow boxes).

Glue the two halves together. Make sure the edges are perfectly aligned and clamp in place until set.

Remove parts 5Z and 5Y from the fret and gently smooth their edges.

Now fit and glue pieces 5Z and 5Y in position then delicately shape the edges of both pieces 5J with abrasive paper so as to round them, continuing the curve formed by the upper part of pieces 5J and 5Y.

Now move on to cladding the completed assembly, following the procedure described in previous packs. First prepare piece A5a. Imprint the lines of rivets with a toothed wheel and curve the piece so that it fits the shape of fuselage perfectly.

As already described in Pack 2 for the crew compartment, the cladding piece containing the door opening is the one which determines the position of all the others. Fit this piece and glue it in place.

With a ruler and a craft knife, remove the excess of the cladding pieces A5a on the upper and lower parts of the body as shown in step 64.

Prepare covering piece A5d, check its curvature and position it so that it perfectly fits both the structure and neatly abuts piece A5a already in place. Then glue it.

Cut a strip of aluminium 100 x 5mm. Holding it with a pair of pliers, heat it evenly, then let it cool down as shown in step 66. The operation will make the material malleable so that adapts more easily to fit round shaped pieces.

Take the strip that you softened in the previous step and sand the underside lightly. Place it on the top edge that you rounded in step 61 and use your finger to press it into shape as shown in step 67, so that it corresponds with pieces A5a and A5d as shown in step 68.

With a round tool (such as the handle of a paint brush), finish the strip of aluminium to make it the right shape. When it fits perfectly, fix it in position with contact adhesive.

Trim the ends of the strips at the rear part of the whole assembly and finish them with abrasive paper, step 69.

Continue cladding the module with piece A5b, adapting it to fit the elements already assembled before gluing it in position

To ensure an accurate join between covering piece A5c and the upper aluminium strip, use a piece of masking tape, positioning it as shown in step 71. Cut the tape as shown to make a template for the exact shape of the next piece of cladding.

Adjust piece A5c so that it fits the adjacent pieces exactly, bending it to the shape of the fuselage and fixing it in position. With a ruler and craft knife, remove the excess of pieces A5b and A5c along the joint lines on both sides, as you did in step 64.

Finish by cladding the left side of the model with pieces A5e and A5f, repeating the procedure for the right side.

Save any unused parts in a bag labeled with the stage number for future use
