That is a beautiful looking deck, would be a shame like you say to paint it blue.

Do you have a scrap bit that you can paint blue and put it next to the unpainted for, comparison, as it is at the moment I would be inclined to leave it natural

In my humble opinion, it would look great if given the danish oil treatment. It would be a shame to paint it blue.
Happy building

BigGrin Hi Mick

Looks great and nice work as for the deck the Yamato for her last but one mission had her decks painted black but the deck itself took on a greyish hue over time and weathering and thats why I did the Yamato deck as you can see in the build diary.

As for your deck a pure blue would in my opinion be too much in your face so to speak but have you thought about using drawing ink as a wash instead. If done in a sympathetic way you could just have a blue tinge and still get the wood showing through. Just an Idea and hope it helps.

Hi Mick, have to admit I do love the natural look to the deck but as a comparison I would be tempted to try adding a greyish/blue wash but testing on a scrap piece first. Applying the wash evening would be a challenge too, trying to ensure it doesn't turn out patchy..... Cool Cool .. If in doubt then Danish oil.....

BigGrin Tip to get an even wash across a large area wet the surface first with distilled water than apply the wash over it. With practice you can get an overall colour with one stroke or even replicate lighter footwear with darker less used deck parts by adding more wash in the less used area'sCool

Hi bin a while, unfortunately I lost the upgrade set in house move.so I have decided to finish this oob. Apart from the wooden deck which I still have,, I have decided to leave the deck natural colour, still 11 frets of etch comes with kit, so still make a decent model, though I'm recovering from a broken shoulder, I have managed a fair bit of the superstructure, none of it is glued together yet as need to paint and fit wooden decks first.cheers mick.BigGrin

Hi Mick, BigGrin

At 1/200 scale this will be a stunner, even straight OOB.Cool Cool

I have a "Merit" kit that is very similar in style and the same scale of the USS Hornet CV8. Comes with loads of etch as standard, I just need to get it out of the box at some point.LOL LOL

Looking forward to seeing more of your work on this one. Drool

Hi del thanks for looking in and comments left. I got the 1/350 kitty hawk in stash so that be my flat top one day.be interesting see what you think of the merit kit you got.done bit more to this, built up bit more on second level.then primed 3 bits with Halfords grey primer the rest is brush painted, the light grey and dark blue grey.im glad can only brush paint at times. Because taping this up for spraying would have been a nitemare. So it's all done free hand.cheers mick.BigGrin

Hi Mick,

just looked through this diary for the first time as there has been a long hold.

Everything looking fine so far.

But as to the Steven Segal- references at the beginning of this thread - i must say i`d much prefer a nice Erika Eleniak - figure coming out of a cake!
Greetings,
Walter
