The Anchors are one of the key focal points of the finished model so for me they need to be as perfect as possible. The supplied anchors are good but with a small amount of effort you can easily make them look much more authentic...
1. First file off the corners at the top of the shank
2. The anchor has square edges these need to be rounded off, the blades however are square so mark the position by scribing with a knife blade about 2mm in from the end of the triangular blade
3. file the mould seams off ensuring the underside of the blade area is totally flat
4. file the increased angle into the tip of the blade and file flat the the two sides, this will shorten the triangular blade a little
5. file off the tabs that are used to hold the stock in place and then round off all the edges. Note the shaft should not be totally round you are just removing the square edges
6. file the slots for the stock and position the shaft inside one half just below the eye ring holes then flood with super glue (Important check orientation! do not do what i did and glue the stock in line with the blades!!
)
7. glue the stocks together with wood glue then file into shape rounding of all the square edges and the two ends
8. rather than using the thread supplied I used some scrap etch but you could use plastic card or thick foil for the retaining straps
9. lay a piece of cotton on the bras ring at one end then apply a small blob of super glue. when dry carefully wrap the cotton around the ring. I put a spot of glue on the thread at intervals to stop it unraveling then glue the final end off. once dry carefully trim and attach ring to stock.
I painted my anchor with admiral paints. I will add the white thread to the ring when i hang the anchors
