Thanks Martyn and Alan and Merry Christmas.  That's stage 10 and thus the build is one third done. The pump well is not yet glued in, I don't know why the instructions suggest glueing it before the planking is done, it would be incredibly awkward to do the planking and especially sanding with the well already installed. I'm thinking the well looks a bit too new compared to how old I made the rest of the hold look. I may need to look into weathering up the veneer a bit. If you have any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them.

 Hi Greyhawk I would just go over it using the stain you used for the planking untill you get the right shade that You Like  Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Thanks for the input everyone. I've had another look at pictures of the actual hold and have now decided to keep it as it looks now, as it's pretty close to reality like this. Actual holdActual shot lockerI may dirty it up a bit with a wash though later.

Thanks, everyone. Cutting out gunports isn't as much fun as advertised. I can hardly get through this wood even with a new knife edge. This one on the left just took 90 minutes out of my life. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well its looking really good. I think one of the methods to clear these portholes is to drill inside of the cut line. Lots of holes that you can then join up with a sharp blade and then finish with a file. Happy Modelling

Well it seems it was only that particular stretch of wood that wanted to be granite when it grew up. The other gun ports were more cooperative. Or maybe they were cowed into submission when I begun ogling the Dremel.

Phase 13  Cut out the lower gun ports and finished planking the orlop. The original Victories orlop planking is pretty dull, scuffed and "walked through". I tried to emulate this effect by lightly sanding the planks while the stain was still drying on them and I think it worked out quite nicely.
