Ok….. thanks to a supposedly highly trained traffic police officer I was an innocent party in an RTA a few months back, so at the moment I’m not physically able to “go up stairs” – because of this I’ve not been able to get on-line or do any modelling for months. Anyway my family decided to buy me a laptop “to give me something to do” so with great enthusiasm I jumped onto the net, chatted to a few people and then headed to this forum…….. OMG…….what’s happen here?
When I joined back in April I raised my concerns about the collection – only to get shot down by 99% of the forum – happily I’m pleased to say that they where right and I was wrong. The forum began settled down and everyone was enjoying the build as well as their side projects. I thoroughly enjoyed reading through the various posts, from the highly skilled Capt Stedders and Jase, the knowledgeable Mike Turpin, the regular informative input from Zeptrader – to name just a few.
But then “niggles” started to appear about the postal service and problems with customer services – all put down to “teething problems” – experienced builders started to complain about the historical accuracy of the build (a bit OTT in some cases). “Niggles” turned to “moans” – and members started to clash with one another. then came my accident…….
So after missing several months of input I was looking forward to catching up on the forum and headed straight for the general discussion section – skipped back a dozen or so pages and started to read……..To be honest I wish I hadn’t bothered……..between the constant moans and clashes there were very few post of the actual build!! I can understand some of the frustrations aired – as out spoken as he was – secretsteve did have a couple of valid points but there is a way to go about this and his way was un-called for - I for one agree with his exclusion.
So it was onto the build diary’s……..
Reading some of the un-called for “put downs” on peoples own diary’s was disgusting. Its one thing to offer advice but it’s totally different to “rubbish” somebody else’s work, we are all at different standards of ability here and people need to remember that, especially when they themselves don’t exactly produce “breath-taking” work! Lonestar’s light hearted build with the Lego men – although not my kind of humour - did bring a bit of light back to the forum.
I read today that he has joined the ever increasing trend and has quit the forum because of a very suspect PM exchange about him being Welsh. Two things – firstly I haven’t met a Welshman or a Scotsman who hasn’t got something to say about the English and vice versa – its just part of the standard home-countries banter that’s gone on for longer then any of us have been alive!. Secondly in order to get hold of those PM’s one of the participants would have had to send the entire exchange to a third party – who then pasted it on to Lonestar – like I said its suspect to say the least…. But it does highlight how easily a simple comment can get out of control on the forum.
Whether you agree or disagree with my comments, I don’t think that there is a single one of you that would argue that its time this forum got back to what it is all about – Building the Victory……

Phil,
Welcome back Phil, glad you are on the mend. Sorry you've walked into turmoil at the moment. I agree that international banter goes back donkeys years but times are changing. Remember when all the Englishmen, Irishman, Scotsman jokes were the rage? Jim Davison had a mate called Chalky. We had the Black & White Minstrels on the radio, gollies on marmalade labels. Political Correctness has gone mad but I do think Lonestar is owed an apology. He has contributed so much to this site and only had one moan but was slated for that because he is a Welshman. History reminds me that the slating of the Welsh was started by Anne Robinson some years ago and has stuck. But this it seems was a personal attack said in jest maybe that has backfired. I do hope this can be put to bed but with a stark warning on behaviour. Again welcome back. If you want something light hearted read my history pages starting with the Sea Service Pistol on the historic discussions page. Paul.

Paul,
Very interesting posts Paul thanks for pointing them out to me, you have a very fine collection indeed. Like you I like to research the background of things, being a collector of pre WWI British Empire medals - I try to do as much reasearch on the recipient as I can, to the extent that during one particular reasearch I actually discovered that the medal in question had been stolen from the family’s home back in the sixties – I proud to say that it is now back in the family's hands where it belongs.
Thanks again Paul and I’ll look forward to your next historical post,
Phil,

Glad to hear that you are on the mend. Due to a completely different set of circumstances, I have also been unable to make any progress on the build (or access my PC until I lugged it into the living room earlier today). Frustrating, isn't it. Still collecting the issues and hope to get the opportunity to play catch-up. As for all the negativity you mention, I'm kind of glad that I missed it. Hi Phil, I am fairly new to this forum and I have been reading a lot of the post here before I joined. And like you I have also noticed a lot of these "where is my issue#5" kind of posts and so far I never responded to them. It is useless and just oil in the fire of those guys. People should be rather thankful that DeAgostini is offering this forum here and that members can get informations from first hand. For instance DeAgostini-Germany does NOT have this service, which made me landing here. Fortunately forums seem to have a natural ability to clean themselve and I am happy that this forum is going back to the main point: Building the Vic. And what the "welsh"-discussion is concerned: As beeing a german I feel very welcome here and everytime I bother the forum with newbie-questions, I get helpful answers. I hope I got my point right, my english is a bit rusted. So stay with us, enjoy your build and those of the other members. ... and just skip the rest. Hi Shipmates, Thought I would add my two pennyworth in the hope that it will cork some of the leaks that seem to be springing in our Good Ship! I've not been logging on regularly as I too have got fed-up with the flotsam and jetsam that has been drifting around the real issues. This forum has been dredging the depths recently. I hope the squall will pass and some fair weather with a following wind will return soon or I may be tempted to scuttle. Cheer up me hearties the good old British sailor was supposed to be more resilient than it would appear on here, what with press-gangs,floggings and no shore leave, some don't know they have been born. How about a shanty or hornpipe or two, instead of these dirges that seem to prevail. I hope that moral and the weather will improve in the near future so that we can all enjoy the voyage on here as well as in the shipyard. Glad to hear that the tribulations are behind some of us sorry I missed them. Tarbrush

One of the things I have noticed about sailors is that when rough weather appears they don't go down in to the cabins moaning and groaning about how bad it is, they make sure all the hatches are closed and then sail though it.
Now, where did I put those planks I left soaking ....

Hi Rich, Frustration isn't the word mate but it's going to be awhile before I can "get going" again so I'll just have to get used to it!! Good to hear from you, I hope your recent commissioned work went well. Phil,
