Build of the Year 2016 EntryWell I thought I would give this a try for the competition. I have built loads of AFV's and bikes and a car on the way, but I have not built a plane in 20 years!! This was and still is my all time greatest jet, from the day I saw one at a show and watched climb vertically from the runway and dissapear!! It was a stunning sight, glinting in is highly polished skin, as it performed over the air field, I was hooked!! So I thought I would give it my best shot and build one. I will be using upgrades, cockpit, wheels, engine exhausts and wheel wells, plus anything else that maybe of use. So watch this space and see Nem actually panic over a build he has not done in 2 decades!!

OMG!! I think I just died and went to heaven!!
That is a cracking kit Daran and superglad to see that you have finally entered the comp and what a kit to use as your build? The EE Lightning was a monster of an aircraft a veritable rocket with a pilot in it!!!
If I was going to add bits to it, first thing I would buy is the 'Flightpath' RAF Lightning & Weapons Set (#48059), which has virtually all you will need for it in one package? Not cheap when you first look at the price but probably cheaper than buying lots of individual items in the long run?:

This is gonna be a supercool build Daran, but no need to panic mate, we will be here to calm you down and hold your hand all the way - well done on a great choice, certainly gets my vote!!
Nice to see a good handful of aviation subjects in this year's entry list!!

Always thought this was an eye catching aircraft cannot wait to see what you do with it Jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

A lovely choice Nem! I've always loved the Lightning too, the fastest interceptor ever!! There's still a twin seater flying in South Africa where she's used for high altitude atmospheric research! And I know just how you feel - those little Airfix Spitfires and Hurricane in the Scramble diorama were the first aircraft I'd made in the same length of time too! Best of luck with this silver beast! Robin. First wooden ship: The Grimsby 12 Gun 'Frigate' by Constructo Second: Bounty DelPrado Part Works Third: HMS Victory DelPrado Part Works 1/100 scale Diorama of the Battle of the Brandywine from the American Revolutionary War Diorama of the Battle of New Falkland (unfinished sci-fi), Great War Centenary Diorama of the Messines Ridge Assault Index for the Victory diary is on page 1
