Having read the reasoning behind the official build timings, which I fully understand, I wanted to raise another couples of points, not so much about the build but about subscriptions v newsagent ordering.

I have subscribed since the magazine first appeared in my local newsagent, I subscribed because I assumed I would get a better service i.e. get my mags before newsagent or if not before then around the same times given that as a subscriber I get the issues supposedly every 4 weeks. I met someone locally who is also building the Victory who at that time was up to issue 42 while I am still waiting around stuck at issue 38, I thought nothing of this until I read the post about the official build timings. I am now thinking I will be better off cancelling my subscription and ordering from the newsagent every week. Has anyone else thought about this?

Another thing then came to mind, as a newsagent you don't sell the magazines for no profit assuming a 20% mark up (not unreasonable) the newsagent pays £5.00 per issue, and sells for £5.00 + 20% which makes £6.00 (ignoring the penny). now this says to me that as subscibers who all pay on a very regular basis should we not be entitled to the newsagent price, or at least a 10% discount. Taking the current economy into consideration,(and for an up to date magazine)if I cancel my subscription and order from the newsagent I am at least helping a local business out.

I'm sorry if any of this has been raised before, but as I am still waiting for issues 39 - 42 I am getting fed up with the subscription route.

Hi saintsman123,
Read your post with interest butyou have not taken into consideration the cost of postage or the free gifts offered to those who choose to subscibe.
I choose to support my local newsagent and am very happy with the service provided.
Enjoy your buildBigGrin

Interesting disscusion,I too wondered at the logic of subscribing versus newsagents, pros for newsagents, quicker delivery, and that's it.Pros for subscribing, free gifts, oppertunities for binders(expensive)updates on materials, why o why did'nt they do a four week delivery??????they have lost customers over that one and many have jumped ship.Eaglemoss who are doing the endevour are doing 4 week delivery, and so subscriber can keep up with newsagents, they are supplying 4 issues every fortnight untill subscribers catch up.someone has done there homework.

I discovered something strange today, there was an old issue number 32 in my local newsagent which had darker/different planking for the hull, I've just gone back to buy it so I could show everyone but its now gone. Have some people got a different hull plank? i.e. those getting them from newsagents

hi saintsman, and welcome..i will quickly bring you upto speed..there have been a few arguments and moans about certain differences to the advertised build and the parts we are receiving.you have noticed the dark wood hull planking ,also the gunports are dark wood but we are getting limewood for hull and ports..also the advertised build has copper hull sheathing but we can only buy that as an extra and lastly the final display stand is also being sold has an extra..we are all getting the same parts weather you subscribe or from the newsagent...hope this clears it up for you..benny(i dont think i have missed anything)
cheers benny

Thanks Benny, I've had a look at some of the posts about the various discussions about the differing items, but I had a good look at this issue 32, and the wood was definitely darker, it was a reddish colour, I know some of the limewood strips can be slightly different obviously because its a natural material, but all the strips with this issue seemed darker, and not just a limewood variation as the grain seemed different as well. I really wish I'd bought the mag just to photograph it and put it on here.

Hi,

Since the recession hit, we have changed our subscription billing to make it easier for customers to know exactly how much of an outlay they have to make each month. As such, instead of charging customers every 4 weeks, we charge customers every calendar month. This ensures that there are no unpleasant surprises where a subscriber may get 2 payments in one month, so a total payment of £47.92 instead of the normal £23.96. (4 issues). We have had positive feedback on this from our subscriber base since it has been implemented. However because of this, you may find that the copies you have received may lag slightly behind the copies that a customers purchasing from a newsagent would have received.

Regarding your comment on discounted issues. We prefer to be in the position that we can offer our subscribers good quality product related exclusive FREE gifts, and what we hope is an easier to manage payment plan to collect the complete series of their choice. We do not charge postage, which is ever increasing in todays climate, as such, we prefer to concentrate on being able to guarantee you get every issue you need rather than a discount on the cover price.

You are of course free to change the method in which you receive your copies, we just try to make it as easy as possible to ensure you are able to collect your complete collection via a subscription method, should you chose to do so.

Regards

Admin.

Thanks for the reply admin, perhaps you could explain this one as well.I have checked my subscriptions page, and it says you have despatched every set of issues every 4 weeks, but I know that to begin with they arrived on a regular basis, but since aroung issue 20 they seem to follow this pattern.....nothing for 6 weeks, then 4 issues, then 2 weeks later another 4 issues, then a 6 week wait, then a 2 week wait, I know adding 6+2 makes 8 weeks so getting 8 issues every 8 weeks is correct, but why do I have to wait six weeks every other set? I did e-mail customer services about this but never got a reply, which looking at other post seems to be the norm as you seem to be very lax on replying to peoples e-mail.

I don't want to appear the person who is always moaning about stuff, as I have been happy with the content of the magazines, and the instructions they give, I'm happy with the quality of parts, its just that the actual customer service leaves a lot to be desired, and as I mentioned, I have seen other posts saying similar things.

As I have been enjoying the build, I decided to buy another kit from you as it's nice to spread the cost, and the other reason for choosing to buy from you was the premium membership for instructions, but I received an e-mail today saying it would not arrive for 14-28 days. When I ordered the kit it clearly said that the kit was in stock, so why does it take so long to send? Like others on the forum if I had gone to another stockist (CMB) the kit would be here with me now.

Hi, well I’ve been getting my issues from the local newsagents since around Issue 4 and I'm due to pick up issue 45 tomorrow (wed) I swapped over mainly because the freebies didn’t interest me and I just preferred the idea of getting a copy a week more than hanging around for the postman. I think that falling behind the newsagent’s issues was always going to be a issue for subscribers if you consider their postage system and calendar. I seem to remember that they did make an attempt earlier on in the series to bring subscribers back to level-par with the stores but postage problems since then have left them further behind - perhaps they could do the same again to help you out?

Leaving the Victory aside….I do (or did!) subscribe to the Cutty Sark series in which my final two parts 17 and 18 are said to be on the way - I have to say that I’ve had very little trouble with this series and any fault was rectified quickly by Admin but I would have to point out that the instructions are terrible and probably not for the absolute beginner!

hi admin,I have been with this forum since last march 2010,and I don't recall you asking anyone if they prefered 4 or five weekly deliveries??if I'd have seen a message about it,I would have been dead against it,I would like to have had a 4 weekly delivery the same as news agents,it has now been 6 weeks since the last delivery, why can't it be regular??? has the warehouse manager gone sick or holidays?I have the same thing with the cutty sark.promised every 4 weeks in the adverts, but in reality it works out every 6 weeks.Cursing Cursing Cursing

Same as you Karl dont remember being asked if i prefered to receive issues every calendar month. Admin, if subscribers want to be in line with newsagents do we have the option? Still waiting for issues 39 to 42 and 45 in newsagents tomorrow. It would be nice to have the option to be getting issues at the same time as newsagents, sadly newsagents not an option for me as no shop near me will do it.
