Let me preface my project diary by admitting that I am NOT a master modeler who possesses awesome scratching building skills and an overwhelming obsession for screen accuracy. I am proud of the fact that I am fully capable of gluing my hand to my face, butchering even the simplest assembly task or just plain failing to read the directions on more than one occasion.

That being said, I am truly in awe of the work performed on this site and have no aspirations to even consider equaling the quality and attention to detail of my fellow MF owner/builders. I am hoping to assemble this terrific kit using most of the parts provided with a few noticeable upgrades along the way. I am not trying to achieve complete screen accuracy but if there is an opportunity to correct an obvious flaw, I will probably attempt it with a very uncertain outcome.

Finally, I will forego a step by step build log in the interest of highlighting only those features or components that I am either proud to say I made, or represent such a formidable challenge that will challenge my sobriety. Here goes...I think.

Before diving into this project by ripping open boxes, tearing through parts packets and ignoring the beautifully formatted instruction guides, I refitted my hobby tool kit. I have been using Tamiya surface primer, Vallejo airbrush paints, my trusty Dremel Stylus, Plastic Weld, Tamiya seam putty...you name it. I also purchased the MF paint set by DOA which looks terrific and augmented this with an assortment of MIG washes, weathering powders and... 502 Abteilung's Starship Filth which was very hard to come by. Quite honestly, I could not pass up the chance to have in my possession "starship filth". I felt empowered from that moment forward.

Thanks everyone! I started work on the cockpit by spraying Vallejo black primer and dark german gray on the various pieces. The seats were painted with Tamiya Khaki and then weathered with a grime wash. I used dirt washes on the floor, door sill and center console to achieve a more weathered look. The rear cockpit was treated with transparent Tamiya blues, yellow and green to improve on the backlighting. I touched up the side instrument panels and replaced the rear seats with some upgraded units from Shapeways. Lots of dry brushing with flat aluminum helped to weather things a bit. With the exception of incorrectly glueing the throttle handles I was pleased with the results.

PS: Let me know if these pictures need to be re sized. Not sure what Im doing.

Nice to see you posting your build, great idea to highlight the back panel, it looks great. I've been looking on this sight since January last year, so many different ideas it has given me and made me so much more adventurous, more than I ever imagined. I look forward to seeing more. BigGrin

Fantastic start Moon! It looks like you're a couple of steps above the "gluing your hand to your face" level to me. I was almost hoping for pics of thatin your build log... Wink LOL Looking at what you've got so far, I've little doubt your build will be something to be truly proud of once you're done!

Congrats/condolences for taking the plunge! BigGrin
If at first you don't succeed,

maybe you should skip the chainsaw juggling...

Hey Moonman,

I can say everything you said and admit wholeheartedly, that I am an amateur model maker in EVERY sense of the word.

I am a huge star wars fan and have always loved the Millennium Falcon in particular so I had to get it. Even thought about paying someone to build it for me, but where is the fun in that.

Do what you want with it but have fun in the process! What your doing so far looks GREAT! Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming, and I do agree I do expect to see pics if you glue your hand to your face. BigGrin

I've come very close to gluing my fingers together, haven't done it yet. Almost though.

I have started work on the turret by removing the canopy and correcting its alignment. I was also blessed with a canopy that was clearly a test subject for super glue or plastic adhesives back at the factory. After thirty minutes, several broken Xacto blades and a host of verbal rather colorful metaphors that would get me banned from this forum, I was able to pop the little devil free. My pride as well as my patience did not fair quite as well.

The quads were cleaned and sanded to remove as much of the seam lines as possible. After applying primer, I sprayed Krylon Ivory matte and applied an engine grime wash by MIG followed by dry brushing some more oil based engine grime.

Hey Moonman,

Good to see some of you work here on the forum finally. I remember how nerve racking removing the turret window was. I think we all had a few choice words when doing that. Love how you gun came out. Looking forward to seeing more of your build.

I ended up breaking mine beyond repair when trying to pop my turret free. Ended up having to get the 3D printed one to replace it! Looking good bro!
