Issue 16
The Right Seat Backrest

Spare parts: Some extra screws and other parts may be provided as spares. Store them safely in labelled plastic bags, so that you can identify them easily should you need them.
Before starting the assembly of the right seat backrest, locate the four holes on the reverse of the seat back rear. These holes will take the screws that will secure the seat back frame.
Place the seat back frame onto the reverse of the seat back rear aligning the screw holes in the frame with the corresponding holes on the seat back rear and press the two parts together (the three raised holes of the seat rear should project through the frame).
Before fitting the screws, make sure that the two parts are flush along the edges, then take one of the 2.3x4mm screws and place it in the top right hole.
Place three more 2.3x4mm screws into the three remaining holes. When all the screws are in place, tighten them with a screwdriver.
Now take the seat front and locate the three pins, these will fit into the three raised holes in the seat rear. To improve the strength of the join between the seat parts, you can apply a small amount of plastic adhesive to the three pins of the seat front.
Place the seat front into place on the rest of the assembly and press the pieces together, holding them in place for a few moments. The projecting part of the frame should be inside the corresponding slot in the seat front.
Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

The Rear Chassis

It is important to handle and store your parts carefully, whether they are to be used in the assembly stage they come with or during later stages. Some parts are very fragile, and must be protected against any scratches and bumps that might damage the paintwork or even the parts themselves.
Provisional assemblies During this series, there will be times where you can only test-fit parts together because you don’t yet have all the components that you need to assemble them fully. However, test-fitting the parts is useful, because it familiarises you with them and shows you how they will eventually fit together.
Spare parts
Some extra screws and other parts may be provided as spares. Store them safely in labelled plastic bags, so that you can identify them easily should you need them.
The rear chassis has a number of holes that will be used for mounting other parts to it. Locate the six holes, and retrieve the exhaust assembly from Stage 6. Hold it over the rear chassis aligning the mounting posts on it with the holes
Test-fit the mounting posts on the exhaust assembly into the holes to ensure everthing fits correctly.
As you don’t yet have the screws to fix the exhaust assembly to the rear chassis, you should now separate the two components and store them safely until it is time to assemble them properly.
Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

It is important to handle and store your parts carefully, whether they are to be used in the assembly stage they come with or during later stages. Some parts are very fragile, and must be protected against any scratches and bumps that might damage the paintwork or even the parts themselves.
Provisional assemblies During this series, there will be times where you can only test-fit parts together because you don’t yet have all the components that you need to assemble them fully. However, test-fitting the parts is useful, because it familiarises you with them and shows you how they will eventually fit together.
You don’t yet have all the parts you need to fix the fuel tank to the rear chassis, but for now you can test-fit it by seating it on the tabs on the chassis by placing it over the tabs.
Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Align the small end of the filler pipe with the corresponding hole in the fuel tank lid, push the small end of the pipe into the hole making sure that large end of the pipe faces away from the tank lid.
Holding the parts together turn them over and tighten a 2.3 x 4mm screw into the hole in the inside of the tank lid.
You will now need the fuel tank and the rear chassis from Stage 18. Fit the tank to the chassis as you did when you test-fitted it in that stage, by placing it over the tabs, then press the tank into place.
Holding parts together turn them over and place the fuel tank lid on top of the fuel tank. Align the holes in the corners of the lid with those in the posts inside the fuel tank. Half-tighten a 2.3 x 4mm screw into each of the four holes in the tank lid to secure it in place. Now fully tighten all four screws.
Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Handling the parts
Remember that the parts are very fragile and must be protected against scratches and bumps that might damage the paintwork or the parts themselves.
Take the right seat and right seat base, locate the posts and corresponding holes, take note of how they fit together for later in the stage.
Retrieve the seat back from issue 16 and angle the diagonal bar on the seat back to match the groove on the right seat base, then push the seat back bar into the groove. Now take the right seat and insert the narrow edge between the seat and seat back. Pulling the flap at the front gently forward, and ensuring the posts and holes you test fitted earlier match up, press the parts together.
Tighten a 2.3x4mm screw into one of the holes in the underside of the seat base, then tighten a second 2.3x4mm screw into the hole in the opposite corner. Tighten another two 2.3x4mm screws into the two remaining holes.
The right seat is now complete. Check that the seat can tilt back and forward.
Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.
