Hello

I've just assembled and fixed the landing gear into the housing, however when extending the gear the fairing is fouling on the 4 x 4 strip.
Will it be ok to cut a small slot in the 4 x 4 strip to allow the gear to
extend fully?

Thanks

Alan

Alan, it looks to me as if you have had trouble with fitting the 4- 6.5 mm screws to the wheel fairing, if that is the case they may well be out of alignment. By cutting away the wooden frame will only give you more problems when you fit the metal plates, plus it will still rub, to me I think your wheel fairing is out of aliment with the housing and needs to be taken apart and re-set. Maybe Tom will have a look for you, best of luck Alan.

The fairing should fall close to the spar but not contact with it.
It would appear that the u/c housing has not been set correctly which would cause this, in effect it would move the U/C forward thus the fairing now contacting the spar.

Before you do anything else, is test-fit the skin panels around the U/C housing, you may now find that these panels do not now fit correctly and leave a gap.
Once the panels are test fitted you should be able to establish the exact position of the u/c housing and adjust it's placement.

Shaving the spar may provide clearance for the fairing, but you must now double check that the skin panels around the u/c fit without problem, there should not be any need to shave the spar.

Thank you both for your input. I did have a little trouble with the whole of the landing
gear assembly as in I found it fiddly.
I will, Mr T, as you suggest test the panels before I do anything else.
Thanks again both, regards, Alan

Hello

I've tested the landing gear operation with the plates in position, dry, and fortunately the fairing is not fouling on them so all's well! (at the moment)

Trev, I did have an issue when fixing the struts to the fairings. I used a 2mm
drill bit but upon driving the screws in, the fixings expanded and disintegrated
so I carried out a repair which I think will be satisfactory.

The landing gear won't be taking any weight when it's on the stand so shouldn't fail.

Thanks again

Regards.

Alan
