I decided I wanted to do something a little different and revealed this kit some time ago under this post

http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=13595

This is not going to be a straight forward build simply because the instructions are in Italian but will have a go at it anyway. Likely to be built as is with possibly some modifications along the way but will see how we get on. Paint scheme is undecided as yet but do intend to apply some degree of weathering.

First thing I notice is that there is some warping of the keel parts so in order to overcome this I have decided to screw the keel down onto a baseboard and there it will remain, at least until some of the planking is underway.

The 15 inch gun barrels are impressive to say the least with the brass barrels being drilled out, saves me a task....

Build has now started with the cleaning of all edges of any burnt ash. Won't be gluing keel parts together until they are all ready to be fitted to the baseboard. Ribs will be glued in place though....

Think this will be fun to put together..

Part 1 of 140

Regards

Alan

It's good to see another battleship on here Alan. I hope you overcome the challenge of Italian instructions, but I know you'll do her credit, and looking forward to seeing this one come together.
Happy building

Thanks for looking in everyone and your kind comments, appreciated.

@ Nem, she's quite a big lady. Scale is 1:200 and measures around 1200mm in length. Certainly not a build that will be done quickly that's for sure....

Well I think this one is definitely going to be a challenge. Made a start on the first issue and found the pics do not match the parts received. First pic shows a part of the keel with numbers, this pic is from the magazine. Notice how the part shows numbers 9 & 10 near the rib slots. Second pic shows the actual part received with issue 1, notice how the numbers are now 7 & 8 near the rib slots. The ribs are also numbered 7 & 8 where they should be 9 & 10. In addition, when I try to marry up the first part of the keel with the next keel part in issue 2 there is no way it will fit together... Decided I am not going to work on any part of the superstructure at this stage, will get all the keel and hull parts together and concentrate on building the hull first then move on from there. Need to see if the correct part as outlined in Issue 1 turns up during my search. If it isn't found then it will be quite a straight forward process to fabricate another keel base...

In issue 2 the magazine shows a brass etch fret containing the individual letters of the ROMA name, this part is nowhere to be seen. Again a hunt in the boxes everything arrived in will have to be done to see if it can be found....

The joys of modelling eh, but it's nothing that can't be overcome.... Here's issue 1, just the keel though.

Regards

Alan

The fun and games continue with the hull part of Issue 2. This contained the second keel part together with another 2 ribs, this time no problem with the numbering of the parts. Ribs glued in place and set to 90 degrees.

Third pic shows the magazine instruction with the 2 keel parts fitted together, the fourth and fith pics shows what I have, no chance of this fitting without modification. As I'm not gluing the keel sections together just yet I'm going to leave this as is until I'm sure how it all goes together. Drew a centre line down the keel pieces to aid in squaring everything up when the time comes.

Regards

Alan

Wow, and I thought the fit on the keel segments of the Bismarck was bad. Do we know who produced this for Hachette? OcCre, AL, Amati?
