August 2016 is the 75th anniversary of the Jeep brand which created the iconic Willys MB Jeep in 1941. The Willys MB Jeep is perhaps the most iconic Allied vehicle of WWII. The two wartime manufacturers of the small utility vehicle, Ford and Willys-Overland, produced a staggering total of 640,000 vehicles. This figure amounted to nearly 20% of all wheeled military vehicles built in the USA during the war. They were used in a multitude of functions by the US military, plus around 30% of all production was allocated to British and Soviet units via Lend Lease. It also continued to serve in the Korean War before it was eventually replaced.
The Willys MB (commonly known as a Jeep, formally as the U.S. Army Truck, 1/4 ton, 4x4) and the Ford GPW is a four-wheel drive utility vehicle that was manufactured during World War II. Produced from 1941 to 1945, it evolved post-war into the civilian Jeep CJ, and inspired both an entire category of recreational 4WD's and several generations of military light utility vehicles. Today's "Jeep" will be showering us with many ads involving a rather streamlined evolution from that fabled vehicle to their latest range of models inspired by an interpretation of a descendant of a civilian version of a Willys MB.

In celebration of the Jeep 75th anniversary, Nemesis (aka Daran) will shortly be commencing a build diary of the rare Dragon 1/6 scale US Army Truck 4x4 kit of the Willys MB Jeep.

Just wondering, does this kit have a detailed engine? No mention of it on the website which is a bit strange. Steve

It also looks like it is one piece which will make painting really hard. The price is crazy too like a lot of SHapeways stuff.

In that scale painting would be fairly easy, but the price is steep. But then it does look good! lol

The build is underway! It will be an OOB build due to time, but for anyone interested in this kit, it is a scratch builders paradise! I may add a few mods and possibly the engine, but I will see how it goes. First thing is there is a lot of prep, namely seam lines galore to remove and injection marks, but again on the plus side, the parts are so big its fairly easy. The front steering is fully functional, and all the wheels on the bus go round and round! lol It is great to build as the kit is broken down into sections, as I have done, axles and transfer box, suspension and wheels. The tyres will be fitted last to aid in paint and weathering. Next step is to assemble all these parts onto the chassis and then a coat of primer.Nemesis attached the following image(s):
