Left rear shock absorber and brake

Parts content:

Shock Absorber Hinge
Shock Absorber Body
Shock Absorber Pin
Screw 2.3x4mm
Shock Absorber Piston
Screw 2.3x3mm
Left Rear Brake

Care of the parts
It is important to handle and store your parts carefully, whether they are to be used in the assembly stage they come with or during later stages. Some parts are very fragile, and must be protected against any scratches and bumps that might damage the paintwork or even the parts themselves.

Spare parts
Some extra screws and other parts may be provided as spares. Store them safely in labelled plastic bags, so that you can identify them easily should you need them.

Fit the flat end of the shock absorber body between the shoulders of the hinge. Take the pin and insert it through the holes in the hinge and the end of the shock absorber body. Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the pin fully into place.

Loosen the screws holding the supporting plate to the axle that was attached in stage 25, remove the place keeping the screws safely to one side.

Insert the hinge post into the hole near the rear axle making sure that the shock absorber body is leaning towards the rear of the chassis. Holding the shock absorber body and hinge in place turn the assembly over. Using a 2.3x4mm screw secure the hinge to the chassis.

Take the shock absorber piston and insert the end into the supporting place you removed earlier. Using a 2.3x3mm screw secure the piston to the supporting plate, then insert the piston into the shock absorber body. Re-secure the supporting plate to the axle, using the screws you removed earlier.

Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Left rear wheel

Parts content:

Wheel
Tyre
2.3x3mm Screw
Shelby Logo Wheel Cover

Soften the tyre by applying gentle heat from a hair dryer or by immersing it in hot water as you did with the other tyres, then fit it onto the wheel. Make sure the tyre is seated properly and fits evenly all the way around before leaving to one side to allow the tyre to cool and harden.

Retrieve the brake supplied with the previous stage and align the notch in it with the raised ridge on the inside of the wheel and then push the brake into place on the wheel.

Hold the wheel with the brake facing the chassis and align the hole in the centre of it with the end of the left rear axle. Push the wheel onto the axle as far as it will go then secure it in place with a 2.3x3mm screw. Make sure you don’t over tighten the screw and that the wheel will freely rotate. Now place Shelby logo wheel cover into the hole in the wheel to hide the screw.

Turn the chassis over and press lightly on it to test the suspension.

Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Left rear wheel arch

Parts content:

Left Rear Wheel Arch
2.3x4mm Screws

Locate the three posts around the left rear wheel on the top side of the chassis. Holding the left rear arch over the left rear wheel, align the holes in the wheel arch with the posts on the chassis.

Lower the wheel arch onto the chassis, fitting the holes onto the posts. Then tighten a 2.3x4mm screw into the middle hole of the wheel arch. Don’t fully tighten any of the screws until they are all in place.

Tighten another 2.3x4mm screw into the hole at the rear of the wheel arch followed by a third 2.3x4mm screw into the hole at the front of the wheel arch. Now you can fully tighten all three of the screws securing the wheel arch in place.

Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Right rear leaf spring

Parts content:

Right Rear Leaf Spring
Right Rear Leaf Spring Hinge (Front)
Pins
Right Rear Leaf Spring Hinge (Rear)
2.3x4mm Screws
Supporting Plate
1.8x4mm Screws

Start by identifying the front and rear section of the leaf spring, do this by looking at the hole that is near the centre of the leaf spring. The hole is nearer to the front.

Place the front hinge at the front end of the leaf spring, aligning the holes of both parts. Then insert a pin through the hole in the hinge and into the hole at the end of the spring to secure in place. Using pliers to push the pin all the way in can make things easier.

Fit the rear hinge at the other end of the leaf spring in the same way as the front hinge.

Position the chassis upside down and place the leaf spring over the rear axle. Insert the post of the rear hinge into the corresponding hole in the chassis, and push the hinge down into the rectangular recess. Holding the leaf spring in place, half-tighten a 2.3x4mm screw into the hole underneath the rear hinge.

Now fit the front hinge into the rectangular recess below the front of the leaf spring. Hold the spring and hinge in place and half-tighten another 2.3x4mm screw into the hole. You can now fully tighten both 2.3x4mm screws.

Place the supporting plate onto the ends of the four posts projecting from the axle and fix in place with two 1.8x4mm screws.

Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.

Right rear shock absorber and brake

Parts content:

Right Rear Shock Absorber Mount
Right Rear Shock Absorber Body
Right Rear Shock Absorber Pin
2.3x4mm Screws
Right Rear Shock Piston
2.3x3mm Screws
Right Rear Brake

Fit the end of the right rear shock absorber body into the shock absorber mount. Insert the pin through the mount and the hole in the end of the shock absorber body. Use pliers to push the pin all the way in.

Remove the supporting plate from the axle and keep it safely to one side, along with its screws.

Align the post on the underside of the shock absorber mount with the hole in the chassis. Insert the post into the hole. Make sure that the shock absorber is leaning towards the rear of the chassis. The shock absorber should also lean slightly to one side. Holding the shock absorber in place on the chassis turn the assembly over and secure the shock to the chassis with a 2.3 x 4mm screw.

Insert the end of the shock piston into the hole in the supporting plate that you removed earlier. Tighten a 2.3 x 3mm screw into the hole securing the piston to the plate.

Insert the piston into the shock absorber body, then re fix the supporting plate to the axle with the two screws removed earlier.

Issue complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a labelled bag.
