Hi All

I was offered the kit and all the extra's at a very reasonable price and just could not resist. It consists of the reissued 1/12 tamiya 1974 M23 kit with etch and all the extras you would need to super detail the donor kit into the 1976 M23 that was raced by James Hunt at the Japanese GP.

The M23 Kit is the reissue orange box but now has etch provided for detailing and is up to tamiya's high quality with little if any flash and some very fine detail moulded onto the parts, it has all the standard working features like working steering and shocks plus removable panels. The tyres provided are slicks and along with the decals will not be used for the build.

To upgrade the kit to the 1976 M23 version I will be using the E.JAN 1/12 conversion kit this comprises of replacement resin and metal parts along with a new set of decals with James Hunt's racing number 11 it even includes the yellow shaded windscreen. Also included is lots of etch along with some pre-cut red panel sheets but I will be masking and painting. The tyres in the kit are wets and are a joy to behold. All that is missing are the Tobacco adverts but I have already sourced these and ordered them.

Now for the extra detailing this starts with an MFH 1/12 Ford DFV engine kit with stand and as with all MFH kits its a little beauty, along with the engine there are extra etch sets for the engine and car. Several sizes of cables and pipes along with nuts, sparkys, valves, connectors you think of it and its there and there are bags of it. The 1/12 racing driver was also included.

Lastly comes the pictorial info like the DVD's and books some of which are very rare and sought after and all are in mint condition. There are 2 pictures one of the M23 at the 1976 British GP and a signed picture of James Hunt. The last item is a limited edition print numbered 32/250 of all the british World Champions with the James Hunt 1976 McLAREN M23 in pride of place.

I think you will agree this is a fantastic set of parts that will build into a great looking model and I just cant wait to start this project shortly.

Hi All

Thanks for looking in and your comments everyone:-

The engine kit is just that the engine and stand components without the gearbox so its supplied in the plastic box although Im not sure just when the engine kit was obtained and that it is still available from MFH so may be packaged differently now.

I have the feeling from looking through the parts that the engine was to be a freestanding spare next to the car as there is also a set of metal cast cylinder head covers to fit onto the M23 kit engine, also the small detail parts are enough to do two engines.

There is an E.JAN 1/12 kit the same as mine right now on fleabay but even with the cost of the Tobacco decals I didnt pay the price there asking for my goodys. Link Below:-

Hi All

I managed to source the remaining three items from the Tamiya 1/12 Motor Racing Team Set for the build which are on the way the first to arrive is one of the mechanics in the act of changing a wheel. The sets all come with the decals and correct overall colors to paint for each of four teams Elf Team Tyrrell, John Player Team Lotus, Ferrari S.E.F.A.C and Texaco Team Marlboro [M23].

Tamiya did re-release this set at one point consisting of the driver,Two mechanics, the race team manager and the tools set in one box but that's a rare beast now as are some of the individual sets.
