On Thursday 1st September 2016 11:00 am, a commemoration of the centenary of the laying of HMS Hood's keel will be held at West College Scotland, Clydebank Campus, Queens Quay, Clydebank G81 1BF,.
The venue is the exact site of Hood's building, the former shipyard of John Brown and Sons.
The morning will include:
- a short lecture on the building of HMS Hood, by expert author Ian Johnson, illustrated with spectacular hi-res John Brown Shipbuilders' archive photos;
- reminiscences by veterans of Hood;
- the unveiling of a bronze plaque by a VVIP;
- canapes and drinks;
- music provided by Royal Marine bandsmen;
- the opportunity to visit the “Titan” crane (used in the fitting our of Hood and many other ships).
There is now no charge to the event.
I wish I could get down there for this but unfortunately will be at work.
So if anybody is in the vicinity it should be an interesting event commemorating the birth of an iconic ship.
