Hi all, I was hoping someone could help me. I have started the bottom planking and was wondering about the tapers. Does the tapered side of the plank butt up to the plank already fitted? I know that sound stupid but, the instructions dont say and, you cannot tell from the pictures.
Also when bending the planks round the bow, how do you know if it needs just tapering or wether it needs a dropper as the planks can be manipulated to fit without either.
Thanks
Wallace

Hi Wallace
Yes, the planks can be manipulated to fit, but if you go that way you may find that the planks will not 'lay' correctly, ending up with clinkering effect.
The suggested way of doing it is to lay the plank over the frames and let it find its own lay without any manipulation by gently bending the plank and if there is a gap between that plank and the ones already laid you need to taper accordingly and or use a 'dropper'. The instructions in the 'mag' can look a bit daunting but if you read them over carefully once or twice it isn't that complicated and once you've done once or twice it will be almost as easy as laying the the straight runs. Hope this helps you a tad.
Happy building
