Hi Mr T
I bought the RAM Merlin sound unit but unfortunately it only replicates the engine at much higher RPM and does not correspond to the speed of the propeller so wasn't very realistic.
I decided not to use it in the end.
However I am happy to give it away for the price of postage. Regards.

RC aeromodellers use a system like these. http://test.mrrcsound.com/
for realistic sounds that can correspond to engine/prop speed... probably a bit pricey and OTT for a static model, and would be loud that close as they are designed for RC aircraft, but it's an option.

Alan As Mike say's above, it can be achieved but is expensive to justify for a static model.
