Crying Definitely sounds like the stuff Andy it's plated in gold but when you cut into it it's a grey colour and is quite brittle Huh

BigGrin Hi all as promised some pics of the carvings on the stern Cool

I am quite happy with the way they have turned out as they are really fiddley to do as they are only 12mm high Blink

Just a few more to do but luckily I have my granddaughter up today so we will paint the rest that go on the beak head Cool

I have also painted the name plate ready to go on the stand Cool

Thanks for looking Rgd Martyn

Stunning work on the carvings. You've painted those up very nicely. Transforms the ship more and more the more you add.

BigGrin Thank you all for the brilliant comments and for looking in Cool

These ships of the 17c are absolutely stunning and such fun to build with all the carvings and the over the top paint work I just love them Love and can't wait till the Deag vasa comes out as it will be a lot more historical correct than the Corel offering and have a lot of ideas for that one BigGrin

Thanks again for following rgd Martyn

BigGrin Thank you for the comments Alan Cool

A bit more done on the Wasa Cool

We finish the carvings on the bow with the help of my little friend Abi Cool so I started on the gunport lids and the cannons

My way of covering the lids is to lay three planks down on the table then glue the lids down making sure the planks are butted up, leave to dry then cut out and trim Cool

While I was doing the lids Abi started her side line build for her dad as he loves Spitfires Love it's not quite finished but I am putting it aside for when she comes up again Cool

I am on the home run with this ship so hopefully she will be finished by the weekend Confused if all goes to plan

Thanks for looking rgd Martyn

BigGrin Thank you all for the brilliant comments Cool

This is the last update on the Wasa as she is now finished Crying I must admit she has been a pain sometimes and a real challenge but also great fun to Blink

A bit of a heads up on anyone thinking of getting this kit if you haven't built a ship model before run away because this is not for the first time builder as the instructions are the worst thing I have ever seen so you might as well chuck them in the bin and use the plans that come with it . Also if you want a accurate model of the Vasa forget it as their are a lot of mistakes Cursing and would cost a fortune to put right Crying . Also the carvings are a bit samey and are hard as nails. Right now the good bits the wood is a joy to work with and very well cut with no raggedy edge and lots of different colours. The wood for the masts was nice and straight and the U shaped wood for the cannons to sit in is a great idea Cool . Oh I nearly forgot if you want to rigg this with sails there is not enough 0.25 thread in the kit Confused

So to sum up, she is a challenge to build but once completed a real sense of achievement Cool

Thanks again for following now of to restart the Sol oh proper instructions yippee BigGrin Love

Rgd Martyn

Ps I will try to get some better pictures to put in the finished build section when the wind drops out side . At the moment it's blowing a hooly out there and she would probably end up in Bury st Edmunds LOL LOL
