Hi there I am at present building a scratchbuilt Xebek of length 40 inches overall. The hull is of oak planking, over plywood ribs, and the hull fittings are of mahogany. The build is about 75 % complete, and I am searching for 20 off by 3 sheave blocks to purchase, to complete the rigging. I am new to these forums, and wonder if this is the place to ask for help. If necessary, I will make them myself   , but would prefer not to. Best regards Martin

Thank you very much for the replies, Al, Alan and the support team !  My humble and faltering enquiry has borne rich rewards indeed. The ref to Cornwall model boats has been an eye opener, and they will certainly hear from me....thank you indeed. I will still figure out how to post photo`s on this site, so far I have a photo on Facebook (under Martin Hartmann)if you wish to look there. Unfortunately my boat is not true scale, but "grewed and grewed" from the composite views on Pinterest. The true length is not 40 inches exactly, but is in the region of 36 inches. At the time, I did not know where to get plans, and a single sheet from the "Chapman Xebec" sufficed, blown up about 2.5 times. On building the hull, my own mods were made, ie, raised foredeck instead of a sunken one, and the afterdeck is to my own design, (mainly through not knowing how to build it as shown, heh heh ) The photo indicates the build progress to date. No carving has been done, the bowsprit is not completed, the foremast is too thin, and all the deck fittings, and rigging points, plus rigging and sails, have to be made and fitted. The mods were done from my own experience of single handed blue water cruising in my own 24 foot boat. ps. I am a happily married man, in my 70`s, and retired. I am adding this because I do not know how to get back into my profile to do this properly  Unfortunately , my nemesis is the computer. When I was still working, I was fortunate enough to have girls to do this for me, and never learned it`s imtricacies myself ! Best regards Martin

Many thanks for the heads up on the plans, Alain. It is much appreciated !However, I have had a stroke, so building to plans is a chore ! I have completely lost the mathematical side of my brain, so working out the scale, and doing the necessary arithmetic is beyond me . I much prefer a blown up diagram, showing in general how it is done, and I will happily continue on my way. I am quite capable of sawing out the timber, and calculate the necessary dimensions without recourse to a ruler, using scraps of timber to make marks on. This also applies to kits of parts, as I find these limiting and frustrating to work with. If you make a "Box up" of it, this is the end, as each part is made to fit the next. I happily fossick around the lumber yards, carrying off scraps of timber of no use to anyone, except for crazies like me ! A cast off chairleg yields the finest mahogany yet, beautifully seasoned, if you are willing to cut the outer, weather damaged parts off. Likewise for oak, and Blackwood, etc etc. The Xebek is made entirely from timbers sourced like this. Please can you go to Facebook, and look under Martin B J Hartmann, and give me your opinion on my work so far. I will try once again to post on this site, but do not hold out much hope. Regards Martin I could not load the file again, after numerous tries.. This is a standard JPG file,and is accepted by Facebook, EPHOTOZINE (look for fotobee) and other sites. It is purely a technical matter, which I am probably doing wrongly somewhere. Please, can somebody help, as I find this site most informative and helpful, but people want to see what I have done, and I would like to show them. I have already tried the suggestions given here, but no luck. I find that building these models in a vacuum, is difficult to do properly, and I cannot wait for critique and suggestions ! Hi Martin and Alain The upload works to the point where it says "Waiting for DeAgostini Modelspace " in the bottom left of my screen. After waiting for a few moments, I get the reply that the file was deleted from the post (See Previous post) This has happened 4 times in a row. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! ps The model has advanced quite a bit from this, and now has the mast tabernacles, Blackwood) the companionways from the main to the raised decking, plus other bits and bobs. A start has been made on the carvings, (In Mauritian Rosewood and Blackwood). All the mast shroud hold downs have been made, out of Blackwood, with brass pins driven through, to belay the rope tails. The foredeck rail cappings have been made from Blackwood sawn and made from two single pieces, (Port and Starboard), which has been quite a mission as they change dimensions in 3D I must start rigging the masts, to see where the yard Parrals sit, so as not to foul anything else. This is to get an idea of the elevation of the Lateen yards, so as to be able to get an idea of the sail shape and how to cut them. Wish me luck !! Regards Martin

Try to upload your images with Hosting Pics. Unfortunately my IP is located in France, so the text is automatically in French and I can't manage getting the English uploading instructions.  It's easy: First window1) Select your file and image 2) Resize the image 640 x 480 3) Click on "Upload now" Second window4) Select "forum link 1" and copy the URL 5) Paste it in "post a replay" on DeA forum 6) Click on "preview" to browse your pic and post it. Hi Alain Many thanks for replying to me. I have been away for a little while, and have not been as busy as I would like. I have been to your sites, and can only gape in admiration ! WELL DONE !! I have just resized my latest photo of the Chebeque to 640 pixels as suggested, and hope that this will be accepted.
