Really excellent. Although I will not be lighting mine, I hope mine comes out half as good as that. It's been a real treat to keep looking in.

G'day Mark ,
Really beautiful finish on C3-PO . Was wondering what type of varnish you used ( semi gloss / satin , gloss ) , and by whom ? . Asking cause I've tried varnishing ' chrome - plated ' type plastic before , and never achieved results like you've done .

Looks awesome ,can't wait to see the finished diorama.

Hi Ged
Thank you for you kind words, the varnish I used was Rustoleum crystal clear gloss. I rubbed certain parts lightly with micro mesh 12000, not much though. I then used brown tracker wash, once dried then gave several light coats of varnish. I then used mig oils sand colour and dry brushed over the body, using a cotton bud to rub off in places to highlight areas.
To be honest it was all very much trial and error.

Regards
Mark

I have been weathering R2 over the last week, dismantled the legs to access the difficult areas. I started with both legs before moving into the body. Once weathered, I will allow to dry before sealing it with a satin varnish.

Next, was to move onto the electronics. Here you can see, I will be using this black box which will hold all the wiring which will be imbedded into the base of the display stand, along with the circuit board with remote.

Then onto the base itself. Before I start the diorama, I will hollow out the under part of the base to hold the circuitry. I have also drilled two holes on the top which will allow the wiring from both C-3PO and R2-D2 feet to go through to the base.

Then I drilled out the hole at the back of the display for the 12v mains adapter to connect.

I then placed the female connector through the display base as shown. I also temporarily placed the circuit board in place for test purposes.
