Here is my entry for the 2017 build of the year competiton. It will be a diorama consisting of LVM studios 1/144 Soyuz Baikonur launch complex with a Real Space Models 1/144 Soyuz rocket ready to launch.

The Baikonur comsodrome in Russia is the first and largest active operational space launch facility. The launch complex can be modified to various configurations depending on the type of rocket it is launching. The R7 family of rockets is Russias workhorse providing reliable transportation of cosmonauts, astronauts, satellites and supplies to the ISS.

The LVM studios kit can be configured to various rockets-Soyuz,Salyut,Vostock and Sputnik,

The kit is made up of resin pieces for the base and equipment boxes and photoetch for the metal towers. The instructions are quite good with exploded diagrams and various options throughout the build for the different rockets. The photoetch is very detailed and hopefully will be easy to fold.I will probably be soldering the metal parts because they are quite big and the attachment points are very small.

The Soyuz rocket is a Real Space models kit.Real Space models makes some very nice rocket kits and their Soyuz rocket is no exception. It is mainly resin with a couple of photoetched parts.

So here are some pictures of the kits.Construction will be starting very shortly in the vain hope I will be finished more than a day before the deadline for the competition!!

Best of luck to everyone that enters this year. There are some amazing models in the line up already.

Now that`s different.

Confused I know there`s a time difference your side of the pond, but I think your a bit late for 2016. You should be in 2017 by now.Flapper

Looking forward to the etch work in this one. Good luck in the comp.

Here is a link to a video of a Soyuz launch from Baikonur. You can see the large support towers have already been lowered out of the way and then the umbilical tower separates and finally the first stage supports tilt back as the rocket lifts off.Very cool.

You can make the towers in the kit moveable so you can pose them supporting the rocket or as they appear after launch

I made a start on the base.I epoxied the side pieces to the top of the base.Fit wasnt good at all so I will need to fill the gaps then putty everything to get a smooth finish. The central ring section had a huge pour stub on it that needed slicing off with a dremel and sanding down. The various pieces that attach to the base are supposed to be attached with screws though the base, but I am going to use dowels.

Nice start Carl even if a bit hit and miss with the fit of parts, though I'm sure you'll cope with it after the amazing job you did on your Time Machine which also had some bad fitting resin parts if I remember correctly?

Great to see this build diary finally being launched Carl, well done!! (pun intended) BigGrin Cool ThumpUp

Thanks everyone,
I am taking advantage of unusually warm weather to use some automotive filler to blend in the extra plastic I had to add to the base. This stuff stinks so I hate using it indoors, but since it was 60f yesterday I could mix it up and apply it outside.Once it dries I will sand it down and then start painting the base.
