Hello all,

The following diary is my:

2017 "Build of the Year" Entry

I will be building a kit which I've had in my stash for some years now, which I previewed a few years back and which I've been wanting to build ever since.

That kit is the Tamiya 1:20 McLaren MP4/4 to which I will be adding the 'Top Studio' Detail Set, some aftermarket sponsorship decals for the 'Marlboro' logos, and the 'Studio 27' Full Carbon Decal Set. Needless to say, as a long-time Ayrton Senna fan, I will be building this in his markings and I intend to display this model set up on some stands with all wheels and bodywork removed (except the rear wing) to show off all of the detail, possibly with a workbench and various toolboxes, etc, though those items may not happen dependent on time available once I've finished the car. There are two figures included with this kit though I will only be using one of the supplied figures. The one in the kit which is standing looks incredibly like Ron Dennis, complete with a headset and microphone, so he will be used, but the seated figure of Senna will definitely not be used simply because it wouldn't fit with the display to have him seated in the car when it is up on stands. I intend to purchase a standing figure of Ayrton, possibly posed as if in discussion with Ron Dennis? I will also be looking to add several mechanic figures to the diorama as if working on or preparing the car.

The first few photos below show the base kit and then the 'Top Studio' Detail Set. The full contents of this beautiful set can be seen in the following videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEJVOfeSzE4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1DEND8RsqI

The Marlboro logos decal set, the 'Studio 27' full carbon decal set and the MFH photographic detail book can also be seen in the subsequent photos.

I think this is going to be a very interesting build and I will thoroughly enjoy the challenge of getting so much detail into such a small scale model!!

Hi Kev, that's a fantastic looking super detail kit. I'm going to keenly follow this build. Such detail at 1/20 scale is quite a challenge but i'm sure you'll make a great job of it. !!

Hello Carl and thanks for your interest in my build, very much appreciated. I am equally interested in your build of the Baikonur Launch Pad, should be a very enthralling diary to watch, good luck with it. Cool ThumpUp

Fortunately for me, I am blessed with very steady hands and I also have an excellent quality Optivisor with Japanese optics (my wife works in an opticians so I got them at cost), but it will still be a challenge for me - some of the parts are tiny in 1:20 scale!! Should be great fun though. Drool

Guy's can we now leave Kev to get on with his build as his diary is going to end up with pages of idle chit-chat without any build underway...please try and keep chat in build diaries relevant to the build going on..

Hello all,

My 'Studio 27' Full Carbon Decal set and the MFH Photographic Detail Reference book have both arrived from Spain today, so I have updated my post #1 with some photos of those two items and I will be starting my build this evening hopefully, so the first progress photos should be up sometime in the next few days.
