I received an email from my brother today who is a volunteer on HMS Warrior. We were recently discussing the new colours for Victory so he contacted Andrew Baines who is Head of Historic Ships. This is his response:
All weatherwork currently painted black M771 should be repainted in black NCS S 8500-N.
All weatherwork, with the exception of the spars, currently painted buff R4287 should be repainted in yellow ochre NCS S 3020-Y40R.
All spars currently painted buff R4287 should be repainted in mast colour NCS S 2010-Y30R.
All ports currently painted in gun port maroon F410 should be repainted in gun port red NCS 2075-Y70R
All weatherwork currently painted in Prussian Blue should remain so painted until evidence for an alternative scheme is discovered.
The appropriate finish for all above paints is mid-sheen.
All of the above codes are Natural Colour System references, and paint suppliers should be able to mix it for you.
To understand the NCS references just Google NCS 1950 or go straight to
http://www.e-paint.co.uk..._1950_colour_chart.asp.
Hope this helps those of you who, like me, haven't started painting yet!
Regards
Gary
