Note: This is my Build of the Year 2017 entry.
________________

After finishing the RB7 display body, I noticed I had an urge to build another Formula 1 car, but with a little more detail, especially internally.

Luckily right at the same time DeAgostini offered the McLaren MP4-23 Full Kit at Boxing Day prices. So yesterday I was happy to run into a big box of car parts sitting on my door step.

Updates will be per building phase twice weekly (aiming for wednesdays and sundays).

Phase 1: Assembling the front wing 1

As usual we start out with a big blister pack containing a plethora of parts, in this case all of them parts for the front wing. We also receive a scrap of sanding paper, six very very tiny screws and a PH00 screwdriver (unfortunately this one doesn't seem to last very long, it's already starting to fray; luckily I have spares from some Tamiya motor cycles I was building)

This kit requires more glueing than other DeAgostini Car kits, so the first step is to remove the prepaint at the glue spots (black scrape marks on the silver wings)

Afterwards the three methods of fastening parts for this kit are introduced.

The lower front wing and flap are screwed to the endplates. The wing is only fastened with one screw per end which keeps the possibility of adjustments in position intact (we'll need this soon)

The middle and upper flap are then glued to the endplates with ABS glue and allowed to bond for an hour each.

Finally 3 stays are fixed to the wing and flaps with super glue. The possiblity to rotate the lower wing comes in handy here to ensure proper fit of the central stay.

The two upper stays sit smack in the middle of the Vodafone decal, which looks kinda uncool. Not to worry though, this will be remedied in a later stage.

And that's it for phase 1. Next time we continue building up the front wing.

Nice start. Good luck with the build of the year! Where the stays cover the vodadone's you get little water slide decals that sort that out in a later issue.
