Hi Everybody. This will be a first for me to actually create a build diary. I am really excited about this project and have always wanted an R2D2 companion lol. I am not new to the building game as I constructed the New Death Star....Sorry mind always on Star Wars!!, I built the Mclaren MP23 2008 Hamilton car with Deagostini which was a fantastic model in the end and I really enjoyed each month waiting for the next set of issues to come. I did learn that by spreading the parts over a longer period of time I got some really good preparation time. I am looking to give R2 a slightly weathered look over time so I hope it will be a fantastic 2 or so years. Good luck everybody with your builds.

Okay so I bought 2 copies of issue 1 and 2 so I could compare non weathered to weathered and I decided that the look would be more authentic if it was to be in a weathered state. The only thing I am not looking forward to is weathering up that lovely shiny dome lol. I am now up to issue 4. Apologies for the photo quality I am going to play around with the camera for better shots. lholland attached the following image(s):

Liking the weathering especially the touches to the edges of the blue with silver SOME MORNINGS IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM WORTH IT TO GNAW THROUGH THE LEATHER STRAPS

Now that is really nice. it! It's nice to see people going for a 'previously loved' look and not factory fresh. (Of course, it makes it harder for me to decide if I am going for a weathered R2, or a C2-B5 from "Rogue One" [semi-matt black with silver and chrome] or the Emperor's own navigator, R2-Q5 [Gloss black, bronze, and silver]) I take it you are using both brush and airbrush in there? Current Builds Eaglemoss: Ecto-1, BTTF Delorean [Installing Mods] Hachette: T800 Endoskeleton Agora Models Shelby Cobra 427 [Plate 031] BanDai 1:5000 Imperial Star Destroyer AMT 1991 U.S.S. Enterprise Bridge [Installing Mods & Lights]
Finished Builds Deagostini: R2-D2 [Never getting batteries]

I'm using a combination of paint and Tamiyas weathering detail. I think as the build goes on I may use my airbrush for larger pieces. I have a full set of weathering paints for that but I don't want to go too over the top.

Looks very effective, is it Gun Metal Tamiya paint you are using as I have seen this used on a youtube vid, and it looks very good. Have some myself, what did you use for the rusting effect I have the weathering powder (rust) from Humbrol, and also the rust metallic paint from Air paint? If you build it he will come Built - Eaglemoss 3D Printer. Building - R2D2 National league Champions 2017 FA Cup Quarter Finalists 2017

I have been using the old citadel paints for most of my modelling in the past, lead miniatures so I still have some of those about and truly just been using a combination of watered down black ink and leather brown paint to create the rust effects although I like you have discovered this fantastic powder detail paint from Tamiya called weathering master and its magnificent for use on the white panelling of R2. I have a feeling though that I am going to possibly use my airbrush on the main body panelling to get my desired effect although I do not want to go overboard. For the silver I have been using the Tamiya Chrome silver purely because it shows up better, I do have the gunmetal and may possibly use it as the time goes on. Here are a couple of my Bandai models previous to R2. These are fantastic models to build too. lholland attached the following image(s):

Great weathering on both the kits, I'm also doing the Bandai R2 as well. Keep up the great work.

Great weathering on the Bandai kits Lee, I love the R2D2. Is that the effect you are going for with the DeAgostini one?
