Then onto the exciting parts of adding the extra detail into the opening panels and the main front body piece components. Lots of people have discovered that the tool arm at the top of the panel is situated upside down so I have simply turned the whole component over which creates absolutely no problems when attaching to the panel, extending out or behind the closed door. lholland attached the following image(s):

And onto the front panel. Pretty excited about this and I'm not sure why . Perhaps its because its really close now or just because there is lots to do here but anyway I added all my components and weathered as usual. I only test fitted both front panels at this stage and have not screwed them together. lholland attached the following image(s):

Wow plugging in the wire for the control panel was quite fiddly and I did not want to apply too much pressure in case of placing too much strain on the connecting component on the circuit board. This took me about 5 minutes to plug in in the end . Got to thinking that when the build is finished will there be something to indicate what each of those buttons do without having to refer back to the magazine. I suppose the app that will be created may have this information but I am thinking of creating a very small sticker with these functions on that would be hidden behind one of his opening door panels although I suspect after a time I will remember the functions anyway, just a thought! lholland attached the following image(s):

Thanks Darren we have recently had laminate floors put all through our downstairs so there will be no stopping him Ok I have decided to customise the interior compartments behind those doors and must give a shout out to Iain Costall from one of the facebook groups for the idea. This is a start of my plan just to add a little extra. I doubt that I will be placing LEDs because I don't really have the experience but just a few extra bits of detail to enhance those areas. I have acquired some random metal tubes and bits to give my R2s interior panels a bit of pop although they are not present on these images. I have also chosen to add some photo etching to enhance on detail but I am waiting for this to arrive through the post. In the images below I have so far added a bit of metallic paintwork and a wire for my enhancements and will probably be adding some of the photo etching when it arrives, This is also finished off by the usual starship filth. I have been adding the metal tubing to the 2 opening sections of the main front panel with which I will add some photos in the next couple of days. lholland attached the following image(s):

Thanks guys. It seems like we are on the home straight, I am itching to see how he looks altogether now so close!! . Quite a few images this time to add up. I have neglected to take a picture of the electronics but all went in fine I am pleased to report and all work happily so far. Trying to be really careful with all the wires and circuit boards etc. This was the last thing I completed but the first photograph of the new batch showing his parts!!! All went together ok and using my trusty tweezers to gently remove plugs from the circuit boards after testing.

This photograph was taken quickly on the account that the back part did not want to stay on and I did not want to screw it on. lholland attached the following image(s):

Next was the most awesome part of putting together one of the most iconic droid front sections ever. This was absolutely great fun coming together. As I mentioned in a previous post I shout out to one of the facebook group guys Iain Costall for this totally awesome idea of adding odds and ends to the front panels. This took an evening of creating and I've still got the etching to add when it arrives but I am very happy with the results. Once again the electrics for the arms went in well and was very satisfying to watch them working. File Attachment(s): lholland attached the following image(s):

So I decided to paint the section that holds the sensors black because I did not want these parts to show through. I also coloured the very end parts of the sensors too.

Thanks Ritchie69. He's really coming together now and taking on a personality and the beauty is that we have a lot of different looking R2's out there. Onto this months build and I started with putting together the bottom outer body panel for weathering without the switch and charger components as I am going to be spraying the satin varnish over the top. Next I built the last of the door panel components and weathered up as needed. I added this to the last body panel and fixed the whole thing to the rest of the front body. This is when I decided to add the extra weathering on all body parts including the legs and head. File Attachment(s): lholland attached the following image(s):
