Hi All,  STILL waiting for the rigging bits for the Vic Carronade.  Good news is that whilst that`s on the back burner, I`m having a go at this Occre Dio.  Link to kit review: Tram/dio reviewThe Tram and the Dio are available as seperate kits, but as I`m building both at the same time I`ll update both here. Advantage being whilst one build is setting/drying, I can work on the other one.(Well that`s the plan)  Both kits start with a base of some description. Pic 1 shows the floor of the tram: The floor is removed from a fret, lots of clean up of the edges and slots to allow glue to penetrate. Then add the two wood circles (arrowed),making sure they line up with the holes in the floor panel. Timber planks are added to the floor next, but they don`t all go out as far as the outer edge. To find the limit of these planks I removed one end and one side panel to mark the floor. (Done in blue so you can see it) The long central planks are laid first, then the outer planks. Only done one side of the outer planks so you can see the difference. Pic 2 shows the Dio base. (Upside down) Constructed from two mdf boards and 10mm battens (six pieces) I`ve added a balsa plank just to keep the two boards level till the Dio parts strengthen it up.(More on that at a later date). My old diving weights are great for pinning things down. 12lb of lead sat on there, so don`t think it will move.  So, what`s next: Tram: finish the floor planking, make eight double seat bases and a bit of internal panelling and Mahogany stain. Dio Start building up the road side, prior to all the cobble stones being applied. So till next time here`s the pics. The tram is 1:24 scale: Length:360mm Tram height:160mm - to power cable 220mm Width:150mm Rail gauge:45mm The pic of the floor of the tram is only the centre section. There is a cab section to add both ends. The dio base is a bit deceptive as there is a paved section both sides, with the buildings making the backdrop. The dio base measures 300mm x 600mm and will have a total height of 375mm, the weights are 90mm on the longest side. I`m just going to have to watch the old back when I lift it. Derek I have seen the dio kits on cmb. There is a berlin one as well as the lisbon you are working on. They look really good i must say. Be interested as you progress to your views on the tram kit. Certainly a nice start you have made on that one. With your tram kit the markings look like they may be self adhesive now? In the earlier ones everything was printed on paper and you have to cut and glue. Hope it all goes well with the rest of the build. Happy Modelling

Thanks Ian and Tony for the comments and all those who have looked in. Tony, the tram markings are indeed self adhesive, but I`m not sure yet where I will go with that part of the build. (Will update later when I`ve made a decision). So this is where I`m at to date: Pic 1: The tram floor has the planking finished and the floor has been stained "Deep mahogany" with the stuff that does what it says on the tin. The stain also has a satin varnish in it, so two jobs done in one. Pic 2: The Dio base now has some shape to it. The kerb sides have been built up to define the tramway and side street. What comes next: The tram will have seat bases fitted The Dio will start to have the road and pavement details added. Till then, Happy Building. Lovely start... I wish I thought about this earlier - I have been to Lisbon last weekend and have seen these trams, damn stupid me - I could have taken some details pictures for you :( Any images I post on my personal builds are free to be used and shared under Creative Commons Attribution license, which means you can do what you want with them, on the condition you mention I'm the author.

Hi All, Thanks for all the comments and to those who look in. This is just a short update on the dio base. I`ve started the cobble stones on the road section of the dio and this must be the bit that`s like ship planking. Shed loads of bits all the same. Good thing with this is, I can divert to the tram for some light relief. So, just the one pic showing the start of the cobbles and the area to be covered bordered by the thin red line. derek That is coming along a treat. I really do like these new diorama kits they are doing. Seems Occre have been making a number of upgrades to their kits as all of the early tram kits, as well as my revenge have the markings just printed on plain paper. I think what you have will be much more useable. Hope it continues well for you. Happy Modelling

Hope it continues well for you. Hi All, Tony, I see what you are saying with the upgraded paper decal being self adhesive, but with self adhesive, once stuck tends to stay stuck or lose adhesion. I`m still not sure which way to go with this bit of the build and here`s my reasons. The decals provided are two dimensional and show some narrow batons on the outside of the tram. I`m thinking maybe I`ll put very thin strip wood where the batons should be, then it will be three dimensional, but I will then have to reproduce the signage. Think my best move, (whilst still in the early stage of this build), will to be to see if I can reproduce the logo`s/signage first and see where I go from there. I appreciate your input and will update as and when I`ve got some news. In the meantime here`s a pic of the cobble stones I`ve fixed in place. At this point it`s just over 200. Derek You certainly a dab hand at tiling - that road surface looks very neat and tidy. Be interested with your plans for the markings. The london tram has those paper markings but they have produced them over some of the maroon base colour so try to match that would be very difficult. Its all looking like a great dio kit though snd looking forward to seeing the buildings take place. Happy Modelling
