Well I have bitten the bullet - and subscribed, and I am soo looking forward to building an R2 Unit. My plan was to just build an Out of the Box R2 unit, as I still have many many hours to go to complete my Falcon build (the weathering is still scaring me !! and the custom Arduino controlled lighting I was designing morphed into a new project The custom Greenhouse / garage lighting / heating & watering system ). Unfortunately I opened the R2 customized build thread - OMG Mark I know your Falcon was a work of art - R2 getting the same treatment its going to be great! My decision has changed - now I just have to paint and weather my R2 - I don't want the just off the Industrial Automation production line look, I know R2 was rebuilt / repaired several times but.. the battered look is best ! This time I will be building as the parts arrive so maybe a little less daunting On the WorkBench : DeAg Millennium Falcon , Deag R2-D2 To Build : various 1/72 , 1/32 WW II Military Planes

Still trying decide what to use as the R2 'Blue' , trying to find that magic single color ... trying to avoid the multiple blue / purple coats Our friends in USA have the Sonic Blue Pearlescent , which looks really close Google is not really helping me , I guess a trip to Halfords is in order to look through the color charts On the WorkBench : DeAg Millennium Falcon , Deag R2-D2 To Build : various 1/72 , 1/32 WW II Military Planes

Just upto Issue 5 on the deliveries Here is R2's Leg test fitted together after having the base colours sprayed on - some light chipping to give R2 that 'worn' look. Leaving everything to really harden off for a few days before gluing and weathering with oils Will get some better pics after weathering On the WorkBench : DeAg Millennium Falcon , Deag R2-D2 To Build : various 1/72 , 1/32 WW II Military Planes

I am up to issue 9 now - still a couple of weeks until the next shipment arrives So the dome framing is taking shape and R2's ankle is coming along, only light weathering at the moment - I feel there will be another pass at weather when the whole leg is assembled. Wow is it really that long ago I last posted an update .... Life projects (home decorating, rebuilding my home office / modelling workspace, and training for an ironman ) get in the way .... but the Artoo build has been plodding along , now the weather is suitable to spray paint in the garage.. The lampshade (oops Dome frame is complete) and the main legs are nearly complete - just minor scratches and light weathering applied - final weathering will take place when assembled to blend everything together. Dome inserts are getting prepped for painting. and waiting for part 58 - its on back order On the WorkBench : DeAg Millennium Falcon , Deag R2-D2 To Build : various 1/72 , 1/32 WW II Military Planes
