BigGrin Hi All

Just had this delivered and the sail set will soon follow. I have had my eye on Kricks range for a while now and the Gulnara was one I always went back to look at . Just a quick peak for now and I will post a more in depth review over the W/E.

Looks like an interesting kit. I've never built a Krick kit so will be watching this one with interest.

BigGrin Thanks for looking in all of you, now lets get on with the contents.

The kit comes in a strong lower cardboard box with a thin card upper lid that keeps everything safe and sound, the first thing seen is the plans pack and instructions in German French and Italian and a separate English instruction set, more on those later.

The false keel and hull formers come ready cut and will just need some tidying up to remove the ash at assembly. The decks come pre-cut in two parts along with 3 sets of pre-cut parts on different woods. A nice touch is the provision of pre-cut soft balsa fillets to infill the bow and stern areas.

All the strip wood is top quality along with ramin dowel for the masts and what you notice immediately is that there all the same colour so they came from the same tree ,no mish mash of different coloured woods to play about with. the metal wire and funnel are packed in there own bag along with some smaller wooden parts.

The two ships boats are milled out of solid wood and have there own keel sets. Two more plastic bags include the paddles and rope sets for the rigging. The last box contains the fittings with some nicely turned brass parts, preformed rings for the funnel ect along with a sheet of etch parts and lastly the nicely printed flags of the Sardinian navy.

The plans provided are very comprehensive and easy to follow that comprise of 8 sheets two full size and six A4 mini plans that deal with each part of the construction starting with the basic hull though to deck fittings and rigging. This is a nice touch as it allows you to work of a well illustrated mini plan for each section as you build. The written instructions are of the usual type but also include mini plans of jigs and important points in the build.

Overall a quality kit with well chosen top grade wood and fittings along with an excellent plan set that will build into a great looking model.

Looks like they put a lot of thought into this kit, and those milled boats are exquisite, looking forward to seeing this progress.

BigGrin Hi All

Thanks for looking in and your comments, The hull is double planked starting with lime wood and then a hard wood. The two boats are also planked over the milled carcasses. There are many pre-shaped/cut parts in metal and wood to save time like the turned wooden parts for the winch and the pre made ships wheel.
