Thanks for looking in guys and for the positive comments.
You are right Alan she is a very nice little kit, a few minor challenges along the way but you get that with any build. I am enjoying the build and now it's down to the masts and rigging.

Graeme True Graeme, every build has its challenges that need to be overcome.... My next challenge is trying to bend a 4x8mm limewood strip to fit the profile of the handrail at the bow, may have to resort to more trapezoid type cutting....  ... Interesting times ahead I think, good luck with the masts and rigging....  Regards Alan

Hi all, now we start on the rigging. The first job is to rig the metal chain under the bowsprit. First two blocks are fitted with wire, Pic 1, which provides an eye to hook onto the eyelet under the front of the bowsprit for one block and the other to tie to an appropriate link on the chain. The two blocks are connected with a loop of rigging thread. I first pull the threads through a block of beeswax. This flattens out all the thread hairs, makes it easier to thread through blocks and reduces the risk of the threads expanding and contracting due to moisture absorption/drying out due to changes in humidity. A length of thread was cut and threaded first through one block (leaving a ‘tail’) then the second and then back through the first (using a needle threader to get it back through the same hole) , Pic 2 & 3. The tails were left loose at this point and the wire eye on one block hooked over the eyelet under the bowsprit (after first opening up the eyelet slightly). The chain was then held straight under the bowsprit and a suitable link chosen to tie the second block to. Once the block was tied the two thread tails on the forward block were pulled almost tight to tension the chain and then a drop of super glue applied to each tail close to the block. The tails were then pulled tight and held until the super glue held, Pic 4. Once the glue was dry all excess thread was cut off. The next two ropes added were, for the want of a better description, the bowsprit stays. These were rigged in a similar way to the chain but with the stay rope being tied around one of the blocks – I find holding the block in a pair of self-closing tweezers, Pic 5, makes tying the block easier. This block was then rigged to a wired block using the same method as above. The other end of the stay was then lashed to the bowsprit eyelet and the two blocks tightened and glued as before, Pics 6, 7 & 8. Pics 9, 10 & 11 show the stays after all the excess threads have been removed. That’s it for now, the next job is to glue the companion ways/cabins to the deck then start on the masts. The first thing to do this time was to glue the companion way/cabins to the deck, Pic 1. Next was to start on the masts. These were once again tapered on the lathe, the fore mast having a stepped tip, Pics 2 & 3. Pic 4 shows the brass parts to be used as the brackets holding the upper main mast flag staff to the top of the mast. These were formed by first bending around the appropriate point on the flag staff then around the main mast, Pic 5. A re-enforcing band was then added to the lower part of each mast. These were made from 0.5x3mm wood strip. For each band a short length was cut off and soaked in water. It was then bent round an exacto knife handle – you could use the mast or an off cut of dowel, Pic 6. The position of the band was marked on the mast and a drop of thick super glue was placed where the band was to start and the end of the band glued to the mast, Pic 7. The glued end of the band was sanded to a chamfer, thick super glue added to both mast and the chamfered end and the band carefully wrapped around the mast and overlapped the band start. It was then clamped in place for the glue to dry, pic 8. Once dry the excess strip was cut off and the end again chamfered, Pic 9. The masts and flag staff were then stained. Once dry, the masts at each side of the bands were masked off and the bands painted black. The rings for the base of the masts were also painted black at this time, Pic 10. Once dry the masking tape was removed and two cleats attached to the fore mast below the band and 3 eyelets added to the top of the mast, pics 11 & 12. Eight rings, for holding the sails, were slipped down each mast. The positions of the flag staff brackets were marked on the main mast with masking tape, Pic 13 and the brackets and flag staff fitted in place using thick super glue , Pic 14. The masts base rings were then slipped over the bottom of the masts and the masts fitted into place in the hull. The base rings were then glued to the deck. Pic 15 shows the Swift at this point in the build. Graeme pemberg attached the following image(s):
