Hi,

As soon as i heard that DeAgostini were re-launching the Build a McLaren part work I signed up & have been waiting eagerly since.
I signed up previously for the MP4-22 Canada model that managed 3 issues before getting canned Angry Crying

Still, at least I got enough parts to complete the Nose:

Now that I have finally got my hands on the new parts, I can see that it was worth the wait. the paint finish is far superior & the whole model looks like it will have much more detail. I can almost feel myself wishing the weeks away to the next delivery.

Like other members out there, I found the end plate screws extremely fiddly. I had a suitable jewelers screwdriver, but even with this & a little lubrication i struggled.

Here are some photos of the finished part 1:

OK, so here is Part 2:

I must admit that i found the vanes under the wing quite tricky to glue, I think i had to re-glue them 2 or 3 times before they got the hint.

Still, looking OK now & no major disasters (YET!), roll on part 3 Drool

Looking good!
I've screwed up both of my front wings due to using the wrong type of glue so to see someones looking perfect makes me Crying haha
I do like to look of them 'clamps' - would you mind sharing where you got them from? or where do get them from? Would be of great help! BigGrin

Hi, yes those clamps did come in useful.

I have had them a while, but if memory serves they were part of a very cheap multi-pack from B&Q.

And i know what you mean about the glue on the wings, i think it was more luck than skill that got them together LOL

OK, sorry for the delay in posting any more updates. This was a deadly combination of laziness & camera issues. For some reason, all the pictures i took were corrupt - with bad colour saturation??

Had to revert to an old camera temporarily, so let's see how these look.

As parts 3 & 5 were identical & had almost nothing to do, i combined them in one update (there's that laziness again BigGrin )

Anyway, one thing i did note, is that as you have to leave the screw slightly loose, it is easier to twist the upper arm by 180 degrees & it then lays flat - much easier for storage

I will try to be more diligent with future updates

**EDIT** - Changed the photo link as the old camera looked awful Crying

Part 5:

OK, not really happy with the results of the previous photo, so let's try another camera - Hope this one's OK! Cursing

Anyway, not much to do here, just add the pins to the Nose plate, attach that to the nose & then attach the underside. It was so easy, even i could do it Cool

Part 6:

Another issue with only a few parts & not much to do Bored

Still, thanks to some advice from wiser members, I had already sourced the decal softener needed to make a good job of this. Nothing too tricky, just a bit of patience required to carefully cut around the decal & place it on the flap stays.

Part 7:

Almost caught up with the backlog now.

A little more to do this time, adding suspension cover detail to the sides of the nose & add the wing stays, then finally add the main wing to the nose - starting to take shape now Drool

Part 8:

The final part until the next delivery.
So now we get to start on the right brake hub (no brake disks yet), but looking good anyway.

When first assembling the wheel cover, take care - you need to avoid cross threading it.

I must admit to being impressed with the quality of the wheels in this model. In the previous attempt, they were plastic like the rest of the model, this looks & feels much better:

Part 9 was pretty much a repeat of part 8, preparing the left brake hub, before we start on the suspension arms & uprights in part 10.

Nothing too tricky here - no glue to make a mess of BigGrin

Part 10:

So the front suspension is starting to take shape.
The only real gotcha is to make sure the screws holding the upright to the suspension arms are just loose enough to allow the upright to turn, but not so loose that it wobbles. Once you glue the upright drum, there is no easy way to adjust that screw.Cursing

Part 11:

This issue allows you to finish some of the aero/spoiler parts on the left-hand upright that was started last week. Then the upper suspension arm is attached to the completed upright. The whole process is then repeated (including the upright) on the right-hand side. Again, make sure the upright turns, but is not loose, before sealing the drum

Part 12:

OK, catching up with the backlog again, posting this part just as the next shipment of 4 issues arrive. There was me thinking I was going to be sitting around for weeks having nothing to do, & I am already beginning to fall behind Crying

So for the final part of this shipment, 2 of the 4 brake disks get attached to the front uprights & then a brake caliper diffuser gets added to the unit.

No sign of the actual calipers yet (at least in the next 4 issues) - I hope DeAg don't forget to send them LOL

Part 13:

ThumpUpWarthog, thanks for the thumbs up & the info on the calipers ThumpUp

Nothing too tricky with this one - as long as you have an experienced adult to help you - you don't want to end up super-gluing your fingers together.
LOL LOL

All 4 parts marked with an 'F' are identical, so once the extra plastic is trimmed off, it is just a case of lining up each part & dribbling some superglue into each hole & then rolling the wheel rim to spread the glue. I used a couple of clamps to hold in place before trimming off the temporary spacers & adding the tyres.
Cool

Part 14:

Nothing too tricky with this issue, just some 'careful' scraping away of paint. the trickiest part to scrape is the two small recesses for the centre wing stay. Other than that, not too bad. I used a couple of clamps to hold it while drying & they will probably stay on there to keep it safe until the whole using gets assembled with the rest of the rear wing BigGrin
