Hi all,
I am new to this forum, I have been in business manufacturing all my life last year I lost the lady in my life and I just did not want to continue with the factory. I kept a few 220V machines and made myself a small workshop at my house. I had no idea what to make with the machines, what I have is a laser cutting and engraving machine, small CNC milling machine, small lathe and a few other machines. I decided I will make the parts for model ships. I bought a black pearl kit from China when it arrived the manual was in Chinese I contacted them for an English version but I got no reply. So here I am looking for some help because I have no experience on building this kit. I would like to visit someone in Gauteng that can help me with the things I still have problems with. I am situated in Carletonville and would appreciate any help.

Is it the ZHL copy/upgraded reissue of Hachette's former Black Pearl?

It's supposed to have an English manual. You could try contacting them on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/modelshipkit/ Max Zeng is usually very thorough in responding there.

The kit you have is the ZHL kit which has been around for a few years and has received a lot of bad comment aroud the net since its release. It has bad parts fit, brittle castings, badly warped wood and poor instructions., it's not a good intro into wooden model ship building/kits.
"Nemesis" on this forum may be able to highlight further as I believe he got this same kit a few years ago and disposed of it because it was that bad!
A translation service should be able to assist though the cost to translate will likely be more than the kit value.

Don't touch the ZHL kit, I binned mine it was that bad. Parts did not fit, poor quality materials and the instructions were terrible, poor english translation and the diagrams were way off including the measurements. If I had known about the Hachette kit I would have gone for that as from what I have seen it is far better.

A few years back I remember reading about ZHL kits being that A lot of various model sites etc have banned them as they a Chinese ripoffs. The do really bad copies of genuine kits which also hurts the model business as a whole because it puts new modellers off as they think this is what all are like.

Avoid like the plague save your money from that and buy a real kit. ModelSpace do a variety of kits from complete novice to Highly skilled.

It's exactly why we won't allow a link to this kit.
