In 1941, a Merchant Navy vessel carrying a secret cargo of British silver was torpedoed and sunk by German U-boat U-101 off the Irish coast. Today her silver is recovered from 4,700 metres below sea level in one of the deepest successful shipwreck recovery operations ever.
After 75 years the lost WWII silver is now being made available as an official Merchant Navy coin to honour our war sailors.
